Review of
the exclusively Oloroso sherry matured
Kilchoman Loch
Gorm 2023 Edition.
 Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2023 is the latest instalment of
the exclusively
sherry matured limited edition annual
release from the Kilchoman farm distillery
on the Isle of Islay.
The sherried Kilchoman dram takes its
name from Islay’s largest freshwater
loch which neighbours the farm
distillery, Loch Gorm is their only
annual limited edition matured entirely
in Oloroso sherry casks.
For the 2023 Edition they have selected
a total of 22 casks, distilled for a
minimum of 8 years. Each cask was chosen
for its unique flavour profile which,
when combined together with the other 21
casks, they tell me has created a
beautiful balance of rich fruity
character with layers of classic
Kilchoman peat smoke and citrus
sweetness.
Kilchoman Founder Anthony Wills
commented, saying: "Rather than
dominating, Loch Gorm’s Oloroso
maturation works in harmony with the
natural character of Kilchoman. The 2023
release has a fantastic spectrum of
flavour, from rich spices and macerated
peaches to fresh citrus, ginger, orange
zest and waves of salty peat smoke,"

Morrison's Tasting Notes::
Nose:
Lovely gentle, earthy, sweet peaty malt
interlaced with some lemon citrus greets
you. Some more distant orange citrus and
cherry..
Taste:
Delicious gentle peat with a wee touch
of a oak spice edge and infused with a
lovely mild cream sherry fills the
mouth. Some late vanilla toffee adds to the pleasure
experience.
Finish:
The delicious gentle peaty pleasure
continues long into the finish, the peat
smoke is a little ashy now and has
retained its wee fruity edge. A little
slightly drying oak spice at the end.
Comment:
The peat never overwhelms, just constant
gentle delicious waves of it and all
infused with a delicious creamed sherry.
Yet another fantastic balance of
Kilchoman peat and gentle Oloroso
sherry. If you enjoy sherry with your
peat then this is hard to beat, a
quality peated, sherried dram that
doesn't overwhelm. Outstanding!
