Kilchoman has
launched a new core range whisky, and it
is outstanding, Kilchoman Batch Strength
which has matured in a combination of
re-charred red wine casks, Oloroso
sherry butts, and bourbon barrels.
 Kilchoman
distillery recently unveiled a new
addition to their core range, the
Kilchoman Batch Strength.
Batch Strength has been matured in a
combination of re-charred red wine
casks, Oloroso sherry butts, and bourbon
barrels, just a touch of water was added
after maturation, resulting in a Batch
Strength of 57% ABV. Kilchoman describe
it as an immense dram that marries
Kilchoman's inherent peat smoke and
citrus notes with deep fruits, bold
spices, and the sweetness of salted
caramel.
Those of you who have enjoyed a
cask strength Kilchoman, whether it was
a Single Cask or the Machir Bay Cask
Strength, will be well aware of how the
true essence of Kilchoman's spirit
stands out boldly at elevated strengths
and having tasted the new dram I can say
you will not be disappointed with the
new Batch Strength whisky.
Batch Strength embodies the
quintessential Kilchoman
characteristics: lively, fresh peat
smoke, citrusy sweetness, and a harmony
of fruits and spices. Yet, with the
influence of re-charred red wine casks,
it boasts an abundance of red fruits and
caramel. At 57% ABV, compared to the
standard 46%, it carries a robust
weight, a powerful and flavoursome dram
that demands attention.

commented on the new Batch Strength,
saying: "At 57% vol., Batch Strength is
a giant of a dram, it has a raw
intensity, that I love. But importantly,
that power is balanced by a delicacy and
finesse that speaks for the quality of
our production processes in the
stillhouse and also the quality of casks
used for maturation."

and naturally coloured.
Producer's
Tasting Notes:
Nose: A
deliciously enticing balance of vanilla
toffee infused sweet peat, lemon, a
touch of honey, some maraschino cherry
and some lovely ripe red berry fruits, a
little touch of gentle oak tannin.
Taste: Everything
the nose promised, deliciously intense
sweet vanilla toffee'd peat smoke fills
the mouth, this is quickly joined by
equally delicious and intense peppery
oak spice. A touch of ripe red berry
fruit with a wee bit of a candied edge
lurks in the background adding to the
flavoursome pleasure.
Finish: A
deliciously long, long, finish, sugary
sweet peat eventually overthrows the
vanilla and lingers for an age.
Comment:
An absolute pleasure from nose to
finish, and what is even better this is
now part of the Kilchoman core range. It
opens with a deliciously enticing nose
that you wouldn't guess was a 57% ABV
dram. On the palate and the finish it is
a delicious sweet peaty pleasure
enhanced by the combination of casks
chosen to create this intense
deliciously peaty pleasure with a lovely
fruity edge. A top quality, stunning
peated dram, if you you enjoy a sweet
peated dram then you will be hard pushed to find
better.
