Review of the
Kilchoman 100% Islay 12th Edition, this year
it is a combination of 29
bourbon barrels and 6 Oloroso sherry
butts.
 Kilchoman
has announced the release of Kilchoman
100% Islay 12th Edition.
The Kilchoman 100% Islay 12th Edition was distilled from the farm
distillery's 2009, 2010 and 2011 barley
harvests then matured in a combination
of 29 bourbon barrels and 6 Oloroso
sherry butts for a minimum of 8 years.
Kilchoman's 100% Islay range is
made entirely from barley grown, malted,
distilled, matured and bottled on site
at Kilchoman which still remains Islay’s
only farm distillery.
Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder,
commented on this latest instalment of
their 100% Islay expression saying:
"It’s a lovely 100% Islay, rich and
fruity on the nose then lots of citrus
sweetness and tropical fruit on the
palate with waves of peat smoke coming
through on the finish,"
Kilchoman 100% Islay 12th Edition has
been bottled at 50% ABV, non chill-filtered,
naturally coloured, you should find it

Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Some vanilla and honey with a lemon
citrus edge peaks through from behind
the delicious sweet peat smoke. A little
salted toffee lurks in the background.
Taste:
Lovely sugar coated peat smoke and peaty
oils fills and clings to every corner of
the mouth, the taste pleasure is further
enhanced by some zesty lemon and the
vanilla and honey from the nose and all
with a lovely spicy oak edge.
Finish:
Long, the sugary sweet peat
smoke infused with vanilla toffee takes
on a spice boost before slowly fading,
mildly drying oak spice hangs in there
until the end.
Comment: I have said this before,
for your money the 100% Islay releases
have been some of best whiskies that
Kilchoman has turned out and this is as
good as any they have released. These
bottles don't hang around long on
shelves so be quick if you want to get
your hands on a bottle.
