Whisky Focus - Johnnie Walker Blenders Batch Triple Grain American Oak

Johnnie Walker Blenders Batch Triple Grain American Oak

21st March 2017
Experimental Johnnie Walker Blenders Batch Triple Grain American Oak limited edition released in the US.

Johnnie Walker Blenders Batch Triple Grain American OakJohnnie Walker Blenders Batch range is a series of innovative and experimental whiskies from the worlds best selling blended Scotch whisky, and aims to push the boundaries on what whiskies could taste like.

Some of you may recall the Johnnie Walker Blenders Batch Red Rye Finish which was launched in the UK last year and as its name suggests it was finished in casks that previously held rye whiskey imparting a nice touch of spicy rye character to the Johnnie Walker whisky.

It appears that Johnnie Walker Master Blender Dr. Jim Beveridge and his team of blenders have been busy experimenting once again and they have just revealed the Johnnie Walker Blenders Batch Triple Grain American Oak, the first whisky in the series to be released in the US and as it is launching exclusively in the US rather appropriately it is the result of experiments focusing on the influence of bourbon and rye whiskey flavours on Scotch.

Johnnie Walker Blenders Batch Triple Grain American Oak is inspired by the time Beveridge spent working in Kentucky blending bourbon and rye. Aged for at least 10 years in American oak, including bourbon casks, Johnnie Walker Blenders Batch Triple Grain American Oak has been crafted using three different styles of grain whisky - wheat, barley and corn, it is a blend of five whiskies in total including grain from the now closed Port Dundas grain whisky distillery and malt from Cardhu and Mortlach on Speyside. Johnnie Walker tells me that this combination has created a whisky that is uniquely smooth, with notes of sweet fresh fruit and gentle spice.

Johnnie Walker Blenders Batch Triple Grain American Oak is a limited edition release and will be available in the US with suggested retail price of $29.99 for a 750ml bottle while supplies last. There are also additional whiskies planned as part of the US program in the near future so watch this space.

You will also find the current Johnnie Walker whisky range available from specialist online whisky retailers such as Master of Malt
