Introducing
Johnnie Walker Red Soul, a sweeter,
smoother Scotch crafted for a new
generation of whisky drinkers.

For the first time, Johnnie Walker Red
Label is unveiling a new global
innovation: Johnnie Walker Red Soul.
Offering a sweeter and smoother
interpretation of the original Johnnie
Walker Red Label, Johnnie Walker Red
Soul has been created to make Scotch
more approachable for those who don’t
typically drink whisky. The product is
set for a global rollout.
The brand is encouraging a signature
serve of Johnnie Walker Red Soul mixed
with lemonade, finished with a pinch of
sea salt and a strawberry garnish. This
combination is intended to provide an
easy and inviting introduction to whisky
for new consumers.
The launch is driven by consumer
insights highlighting taste as a key
barrier to entry. Research shows that
more than a quarter of non-Scotch whisky
drinkers are interested in the category
but prefer sweeter flavour profiles,
pointing to demand for innovations that
align with changing preferences while
maintaining quality.
The new release also supports Diageo's
strategy to expand its presence in the
entry-level segment, which is currently
the largest and fastest-growing area
within the global blended Scotch whisky
market.
John Williams, Global Whiskey Director
at Diageo, commented: "One of the things
that makes Johnnie Walker a global
leader is our ability to offer choice at
every price point and respond to the
evolving needs of consumers, whether
they are whisky lovers or totally new to
the category.
"Red Label has been a market leader and
global growth engine for over 35 years (IWSR
2025). It’s an icon of quality which has
been recruiting new whisky drinkers -
particularly females and younger
audiences - yet, for some, it’s still
not always considered a drink that feels
easy and social.
"Johnnie Walker Red Soul shows another
side to whisky - softer, a bit sweeter
and perfect for mixing. We see it as a
great choice for those looking for a
quality spirit at a more affordable
price point."
Johnnie Walker Red Soul has been
developed by Master Blender Emma Walker
and her team, with the aim of rethinking
how and when Scotch whisky can be
enjoyed, and injecting fresh energy into
the category.
The whisky is built around a flavour
profile led by vanilla sweetness,
followed by notes of caramel fudge and
light oak, finishing with a smooth and
creamy texture. Designed to be bright
and balanced, it deliberately avoids
smoky characteristics in favour of a
softer, more vibrant style.
Drawing inspiration from the legacy of
Johnnie Walker, the new expression
reinterprets the boldness of Red Label
with a modern approach. Using the same
reserves of ageing casks, it delivers a
more versatile and accessible profile
suited to contemporary drinking
occasions.
A key focus during development was
versatility, particularly for those new
to whisky. The liquid is crafted to
maintain its character in longer,
lighter serves and works well in simple
mixed drinks suited to casual, social
settings.
The creation of Red Soul reflects years
of experimentation and a continued push
to explore new possibilities within
Scotch whisky. In contrast to the
spicier and smokier profile of Red
Label, this expression emphasises
sweetness and smoothness, allowing
maturation notes to take centre stage.
The whisky is designed for sharing and
is positioned around easy-to-make
serves, particularly the Red Soul and
lemonade combination, where its softer
oak and balanced sweetness are enhanced.
Emma Walker said: "I really welcomed the
opportunity to develop Johnnie Walker
Red Soul. Johnnie Walker Red Label has
always held a special place for me -
I’ve long loved its bold, spicy energy
and the way it brings vibrancy to any
occasion. It’s a blend with real
character.
"With Red Soul, I wanted to explore a
different expression of that spirit. We
kept the lively, approachable core that
defines Red Label, but chose to dial up
the vibrant vanilla sweetness and
smoothness, deliberately stepping away
from smoky notes to create something
brighter. It was a flavour profile
designed to appeal to a younger audience
who perhaps had not tried whisky
previously.
"The result is a whisky that feels open
and incredibly versatile - one that
shines in simple serves and is perfectly
suited to relaxed, spontaneous times
with friends."
Johnnie Walker Red Soul will initially
launch across selected markets in Europe
and the Middle East and North Africa,
with further regions expected to follow.
The recommended retail price is £25.
