Double Gold
for Jameson's outstanding Black Barrel.
I
am sure it wont come as much of a
surprise to those of you who are
familiar with it, it doesn't surprise me
at all that Jameson Black Barrel
celebrated a Gold Outstanding and 98
points from the International Wine and
Spirits Competition 2021 (IWSC), and an
impressive Double Gold medal from the
International Spirits Challenge (ISC) in
recent weeks, last night Jameson Black
Barrel took home the overall trophy for
the best Irish whiskey at the ISC’s
prestigious annual ceremony.
Testament to the quality and
craftsmanship of the beloved Irish
whiskey, this honour is the result of a
rigorous blind tasting assessment from
an experienced panel of judges to
discover outstanding quality in the
spirits industry. Matured in reawakened
bourbon barrels, Jameson Black Barrel
has a unique richness, with intense
vanilla sweetness, pot still spiciness
and nutty notes.
Irish Distillers also won the highest
recognition for Irish whiskey at the ISC,
after being crowned Irish Whiskey
Producer of the Year at the esteemed
awards ceremony. The result follows a
stellar year at the competition for
Midleton Distillery which saw its
expressions receive an outstanding 28
medals, including three Double Golds.
Jameson Black Barrel is a
triple-distilled Irish whiskey that pays
tribute to the cooper’s method of
charring barrels for a second time.
Charring is a traditional method for
invigorating barrels, although today at
Midleton double-charred barrels are used
by choice rather than through necessity.
The expression uses a blend of ‘small
batch’ grain and traditional pot still
Irish Whiskey, which is distilled just
once a year at the Midleton distillery
in Cork, it is matured in a combination
of American oak, sherry casks and
double-charred bourbon barrels.
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose: Sherry and pot still fruitiness, some candied citrus fruit there also, vanilla toffee and a wee touch of spice.
Taste: Sweet creamy vanilla coated in pot still spices, coconut, burnt raisins, a little nutty, a little lemon citrus.
Finish: Deliciously long, sherried fruit and spice fade leaving lovely oak spice.
Comment:
An outstanding Irish blended whiskey,
loads going on from the contributions
made from the grain and pot still
whiskeys as well as American oak, sherry
casks and double-charred bourbon
barrels. A delicious dram.
