Jameson 18
Year Old now bottled non chill filtered
at 46% ABV and presented in new
sustainable packaging.
Irish
Distillers has unveiled a new look for
its Jameson 18 Year Old and they have
also bottled the whiskey at a higher
strength.
Going forward the Jameson 18 Year Old
expression will now be presented in new,
lightweight sustainable packaging with
the original box redesigned as fully
recyclable cardboard complete with
foiled accents.
The packaging redesign aligns to Irish
Distillers’ and their parent company Pernod Ricard’s broader
sustainability commitments by focusing
on minimising waste at every step by
fostering and applying a circular
mindset across the business.
And perhaps more importantly from a
whisky drinkers point of view the new
look Jameson 18 Year Old will now be
bottled at the higher strength of 46%
ABV, up from 40% ABV, removing the need
for chill filtration.
Irish Distiller's tells me in their
announcement for the new higher strength
Jameson 18 Year Old expression that it
is a "significant change to the
celebrated Jameson 18 Years whiskey" but
at the same time the tasting note which
they have provided is the exact same
tasting note that described the old
Jameson 18 expression, so I can't
comment on what the extra ABV adds to
the taste experience of the new whisky
as Irish Distiller's hasn't said but I
am sure it must have boosted the whole
tasting pleasure.
Commenting on the new higher strength
Jameson 18 Year Old Irish Distiller's
Master Distiller, Kevin O’Gorman
explains: "Made from a selection of some
of our oldest and most precious
distillates, which are then married and
finished in first fill American bourbon
barrels for a minimum of 6 months,
Jameson 18 Years is already an
exceptional whiskey in terms of quality.
"And to truly allow the complexity of
this whiskey to shine, we have increased
the ABV from 40% to 46% and removed the
need for chill filtration. This
modification helps to concentrate the
signature flavours found in Jameson 18
Years balancing Jameson’s characteristic
smoothness with the depth of the whiskey
in its natural state."
In addition, the new packaging will
feature a scannable QR code which will
direct Jameson fans to a virtual guided
tasting hosted by the Master Distiller,
Kevin O’Gorman.
The new Jameson 18 Year Old has a RRP of
€200 for a 70cl bottle and it will be
rolled out over the coming months, you
will find it along with the rest of the
Jameson core
range available from specialist online whisky retailers

Producer's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Aromatic oils with a touch of wood and
spicy toffee.
Taste:
Wonderfully mellow and smooth, with rich
and complex flavours of toffee, spice
and hints of wood and leather along with
a gentle sherry nuttiness and vanilla.
Finish:
A long lingering finish carries the
theme of the wood, spice and toffee
right through to the end.
