Review of
the
peaty Loch Lomond Island Collection
Inchmoan 1992.
 Inchmoan
1992 is a peaty 25 year old single malt
limited release from the Loch Lomond
distillery's Island Collection.
The peaty Inchmoan 1992 takes its
name from one of the many islands found
in Loch Lomond and rather appropriately
‘Inch-moan’ is Scottish Gaelic for ‘the
island of the peat’ and for centuries,
the mainland inhabitants around Loch
Lomond used Inchmoan Island as their
source of peat fuel for village fires.
The vintage 1992 was aged for 25 years
in refill American bourbon barrels which the
distillery says has allowed the
spice-driven peat and fruity distillery
character to combine with the softer
influence of refill bourbon barrels to
give a truly integrated, refined
flavour. The result is an elegant, rich
single malt with a beautiful balance of
fruit and spicy peat.
The Inchmoan 1992 was bottled at
48.6% ABV and just as we like it is non chill-filtered
and naturally coloured, it has a RRP of
£199 and will be available from
specialist online whisky retailers such

Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose: A very gentle wisp of peat
smoke and equally gentle barley sugar
sweetness.
Taste: Very
gentle peat coated in a lovely Demerara
sugar sweetness. A little candied
fruitiness, creamy vanilla and mild oak
spice is joined by ginger biscuits and a
touch of cinnamon.
Finish: The ginger spice which is now sugar coated fades
leaving a lingering gentle fruitiness
and delicious rich mature oak.
Comment: Very shy on the nose but makes up for it on the
palate and finish and even at 48.6% this is a
deliciously smooth dram. The peat has
faded after 25 years as you would expect
but still adds a very gentle touch to
the fun. A truly lovely malt.
