The House of
Suntory sets a new benchmark in luxury
travel retail with its first permanent
boutique at HKIA—an immersive
collaboration with Duty Zero by cdf
celebrating exceptional craftsmanship
and the art of Japanese gifting.

Suntory Global Spirits, a global leader
in premium spirits, has joined forces
with Duty Zero by cdf under China Duty
Free Group to introduce a new milestone
for Japanese whisky fans: the first
permanent House of Suntory shop-in-shop
at Hong Kong International Airport, one
of the most vibrant travel hubs in the
Asia-Pacific region.
The newly opened 30sq m boutique in
Terminal 1 Departures, East Hall North
immerses travellers in an environment
where Japanese artistry, modern luxury
and a spirit of exploration come
together. As the first collaboration
between The House of Suntory and Duty
Zero by cdf, the space underscores their
shared ambition to elevate luxury travel
retail and further reinforce The House
of Suntory’s leadership within the
Japanese whisky segment. Key whisky and
white-spirit brands from the House are
prominently featured.
"The launch of our first permanent House
of Suntory shop-in-shop at Hong Kong
International Airport marks an inspiring
new milestone in our partnership with
Duty Zero by cdf," said Suntory Global
Spirits Managing Director Global Travel
Retail Ashish Gandham.
"This space allows us to share the very
best of Japanese craftsmanship with a
truly international audience. By uniting
immersive design with our most
exceptional whiskies, we continue to premiumise
the global travel retail spirits
landscape, enrich the traveller
experience, and strengthen the presence
of The House of Suntory across this
vital channel."
A gateway to Japanese artistry
Designed to extend the House’s
international presence, the shop-in-shop
showcases its most prestigious Japanese
whiskies alongside premium white
spirits. Every design element pays
homage to the House’s history and its
role in shaping the Japanese whisky
category.
The exterior blends traditional Japanese
materials with contemporary design:
warm, glowing Washi screens and
carefully crafted wooden lattices
inspired by Kigumi architecture create a
harmonious balance. A prominent
merchandising installation at the
entrance highlights new limited editions
and innovations, setting an elevated
tone from the first glance.
Inside, a circular feature wall draws
inspiration from Marumado rounded
windows seen in classic Japanese
architecture. This visual centrepiece
frames the House’s flagship expressions,
presenting them in a gallery-like
tribute to Japanese whisky
craftsmanship.
Immersive tastings and rare discoveries
At the heart of the space, a dedicated
tasting bar invites travellers to
explore curated whisky journeys guided
by expert Brand Ambassadors. Here, the
Beatification of Time concept highlights
rare, high-aged and high-value releases,
giving collectors a chance to experience
whiskies shaped by decades of
refinement.
An adjoining Art of Japanese Gifting
zone offers beautifully packaged gifts
and personalised recommendations,
transforming each purchase into a
meaningful keepsake.
"We are committed to creating a
world-class retail environment where
iconic brands can showcase their
portfolio and express their heritage in
a compelling way,” said Duty Zero by cdf
Deputy General Manager Mr. Enzo Li.
“This new House of Suntory opening adds
further depth to our prestige spirits
collection, offering travellers a
refined destination for discovery,
gifting and rare whisky exploration."
Suntory is celebrated as the founding
house of Japanese whisky, beginning with
Shinjiro Torii’s establishment of
Japan’s first malt whisky distillery in
Yamazaki in 1923, later advanced by his
son Keizo Saji, who founded the Hakushu
and Chita Distillery. Guided by
generations of master blenders, the
House continues to balance tradition
with innovation.
Today, The House of Suntory crafts
award-winning whiskies—Yamazaki,
Hakushu, Chita, Kakubin, Hibiki and
Suntory Whisky Toki—all distilled,
matured and bottled in Japan in
accordance with Japan Spirits & Liqueurs
Makers Association (JSLMA) standards.
In 2025, Yamazaki achieved a historic
milestone at the International Spirits
Challenge, becoming the first brand to
win Supreme Champion Spirit for three
consecutive years, while in 2024, Chief
Blender Shinji Fukuyo earned the title
of Master Blender of the Year.
As a world leader in premium spirits,
Suntory Global Spirits inspires the
brilliance of life by creating rich
experiences for people in harmony with
nature. The company is known for its
mastery in crafting premium whiskies,
including Jim Beam and Maker’s Mark;
iconic Japanese whiskies such as
Yamazaki, Hakushu, Hibiki and Toki; and
renowned Scotch whiskies including
Laphroaig and Bowmore.
If you have no travel plans in the near
future you will find the Suntory whisky
portfolio available from specialist online whisky
