Hazelwood is unveiling a rare, one-off
bottling called The Long View, a 31 Year
Old Blended Scotch Whisky created for
the OurWhisky Foundation’s first auction
- The Demeter Collection.
The OurWhisky Foundation is a non-profit
organisation dedicated to recognising,
supporting, and empowering women in the
global whisky industry. The Long View,
crafted by Blender Eilidh Muir, pays
homage to the influential women of
Hazelwood and their impact on the
family's whisky stocks. Whisky
Auctioneer will auction this unique
bottling to raise funds for the
Foundation.
Crafted from stocks accumulated over
generations, this exceptional blend
commemorates the contributions of three
remarkable women integral to the House
of Hazelwood narrative, resulting in a
whisky that they describe as both
decadently rich and elegantly complex.
It is a tribute to patience,
perseverance, and a reminder that the
most significant things in life often
require time to mature.
These three women are Janet Sheed-Roberts,
Eilidh Muir, and Kirsten Grant-Meikle.
Janet Sheed-Roberts, William Grant's
granddaughter, resided at Hazelwood
House and was Scotland’s oldest person
at 110 years old when she passed away.
Affectionately known as 'Wee Janie,' she
served as the family matriarch, playing
roles of granddaughter, daughter,
sister, wife, aunt, and great aunt to
successive Chairmen and Managing
Directors of the business for over a
century.
For nearly a century, the House of
Hazelwood's inventory has been at the
heart of a pioneering ethos, with each
whisky maker tasked with challenging
conventions and pushing boundaries.
Today, Eilidh Muir stands as a guardian
of the whisky, employing and evolving
techniques passed down through the
decades to create whiskies that are
unparalleled in character.
Commenting on the whisky, Eilidh, said:
"At the heart of this blended whisky is
a parcel of stock originally blended to
mark Janet Sheed-Roberts’s milestone
birthday and bottled for employees and
family only. I have since added two
lovely parcels of grain whisky, one of
which was matured in bourbon casks and
the other finished in sherry wood,
creating a fruity blend with great depth
and oaky character with hints of spice
and sherbet."
Kirsten Grant-Meikle, a fifth-generation
family descendant of William Grant, is
carrying forward the family tradition of
laying down stock for future generations
to savour. She holds cherished memories
of summers spent at Hazelwood House with
'Wee Janie.'
Commenting on the whisky and why she
wants to support this inaugural auction,
Kirsten, said: "The Long View
beautifully encapsulates this tradition
enabling us to support the OurWhisky
Foundation on its journey towards gender
equality. Janet Sheed-Roberts was a
truly inspiring lady, the only female in
her class studying Law at Edinburgh
University, she was always a believer in
gender equality and living to 110 she
certainly will have had a long view of
the business and how gender roles
evolved over time."
The Long View will be up for
auction through Whisky Auctioneer as a
part of the OurWhisky Foundation’s The
Demeter Collection from March 29th to
April 8th. To participate in bidding,
