Highland Park
add a new permanent Cask Strength
expression to their core range.
Highland
Park has announced the addition of the
first ever cask strength expression to
their core range, the Highland Park Cask
Strength Release No.1
The new Highland Park Cask Strength is a
marriage of first fill American oak
ex-sherry and refill casks of various
ages which have been hand selected by
Highland Park's Master Whisky Maker
Gordon Motion.
The inaugural Highland Park Cask
Strength Release No.1 has been bottled
at a married, and surely flavoursome,
cask strength of 63.3% ABV, this figure
will obviously change from one release
to the next as, I am pleased to say, the
new whisky has been bottled 100% in
its natural state as it came from the
cask, no added water, naturally coloured and non
chill-filtered.
I am told that the reason Gordon Motion
selected and married together
predominantly sherry seasoned American
oak casks of different ages was to
create a harmonious balance of flavour
in the classic Highland Park style.
Gordon commented on the new expression,
saying: "A cask strength whisky is very
much made the traditional way but it
doesn’t have to be enjoyed so. Its full
flavour allows you the control to
discover the taste and strength that
appeals to your palate by adding ice or
water according to your preference.
"I want to give everyone who loves
Highland Park the chance to experience
our single malt whisky in its purest
from by bottling ‘straight from the
cask’ but allowing you to choose the
strength you want to drink this special
single malt."
I haven't yet had the pleasure of the
new Highland Park Cask Strength but
I have had the pleasure of a few
independent bottlings of Highland Park
cask strength expressions in the past which have been outstanding
so here is hoping that Gordon has
selected some good sherry casks for this
new permanent addition to the Highland
Park line-up and the great thing about
an expression like this is that it will
naturally vary slightly in strength and
flavour from one release to the next
dependent on the marriage of casks in
each batch.
The new Highland Park Cask Strength
Release No.1 which has a RRP of £60 has
already started to roll out globally
is now available from specialist
online whisky retailers such as
The Whisky Exchange,
The Whisky Shop and
Master of Malt
