Review of
the Highland Park 16 Year Old Twisted
Tattoo.
 Highland
Park 16 Year Old Twisted Tattoo is a
marriage of oak casks seasoned with
Spanish Rioja wine – 153 casks in total
– with whisky matured in 70 first-fill
bourbon casks. The result is Highland
Park Twisted Tattoo 16 Year Old.
Tattoos are a vital part of our cultural
heritage today so the name of this
whisky alone should perhaps help the
whisky find a market.
Tattoo's tell the world who we are,
without saying a word. In collaboration
with Danish tattoo artist and modern day
Viking Soul, Colin Dale, Highland Park
has created the bold design for this
whisky, which celebrates the tattoo.
Colin’s intricate design is inspired by
the free-flowing Nordic knotwork found
on Viking wood carvings and reflects the
Norse legend of the Midgard serpent,
which grew so large it twisted round the
Earth to grasp its tail in its mouth.

Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Sweet vanilla and little heather honey
enthused with a lovely enticing
fruitiness - a mix of peach and apricot
and a touch of red berries. Just the
very gentlest smoke lurking in the
background.
Taste:
The vanilla and honey from the nose
leads with a barley sugared edge and a
dusting of pepper, followed by peach and
a little sultana fruitiness and just the
slightest touch of HP peat smoke.
Finish:
Sweet vanilla and heather honey linger
long into the finish before bowing out
to to leave some very gentle peat smoke,
a touch of liquorice, cinnamon and a
little ginger and there is a little
drying oak to remind you of the 16 years
it has spent maturing.
Comment:
The Spanish Rioja wine has certainly
added its twist to this Highland Park,
not a big in your face twist but enough
to offer us a different Highland
Park, but do HP fans want this kind of
different, still an enjoyable dram which
I would be happy to pour at the end of
the day but it could have done with some
more Highland Park peat smoke in the mix
as it was too gentle throughout.
