Whisky Cocktail - Put A Twist On The Glen Moray Twisted Vine

22nd August 2023
Glen Moray invites drinkers to cast their single malt rule books aside and get creative when enjoying their latest expression – Glen Moray Twisted Vine.

Glen Moray Twisted Vine Cognac CaskGlen Moray single malt whisky has extended an enthusiastic "invitation to play" through their latest endeavour, the' Twisted Vine Campaign', and the decree is clear: rules need not apply!

Hailing from Elgin in the heart of Speyside, the distillery has unveiled a collaborative campaign that urges whisky enthusiasts to cast aside conventional notions and embrace creativity when savouring their latest offering – the delicious ex-Cognac cask matured Glen Moray Twisted Vine.

Introduced earlier this year in July, this delightful whisky, matured in Cognac casks, has been met with resounding acclaim among UK single malt connoisseurs, lauded for its enticing sweet and spicy profile, not to mention its bold aesthetic.

In a celebration of their philosophy to infuse individuality into whisky enjoyment, the Glen Moray team issues a challenge to likeminded collaborators: to explore and contemporise the world of single malt according to their own vision.

Stepping onto this innovative stage are the pioneering pair behind the esteemed drinks magazine, website, and podcast 'The Cocktail Lovers,' based in London. Gary Sharpen and Sandrae Lawrence have effortlessly conjured a refreshing concoction inspired by the whisky's fruity undertones – a libation surprisingly graced by an ingredient uncommon in whisky-based drinks: pineapple.

Their creation, the Pineapple DiVine cocktail, is elegantly simple yet wonderfully gratifying, blending Twisted Vine with pineapple syrup and freshly squeezed lemon juice, crowned with the effervescence of Prosecco.

This inaugural partnership will unfold across various social media and online platforms in the coming months. Meanwhile, devoted followers of Glen Moray are invited to reimagine their own approaches to elevating the single malt whisky experience, echoing the spirit of innovation that defines the Twisted Vine Campaign.

Glen Moray UK Marketing Manager James Collins said: "Historically Glen Moray was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to explore the effects of using unusual casks on whisky maturation, and it’s something we still do to this day. It’s this playful approach that we wanted to underline in our new campaign. Teaming up with like-minded partners is an exciting way to showcase that there really shouldn’t be any set rules when it comes to enjoying single malt. As The Cocktail Lovers have done, we hope our drinkers will get inspired and explore flavours and ingredients for themselves, to put their own twist on our new single malt."

Glen Moray Twisted Vine Cognac Cask Review

Bottled at 40% ABV.

William Morrison's Tasting Notes:

Nose: A sweetish aromatic fruity cocktail of cognac infused raisin, some cherry and rose oil, a touch of milk chocolate and some distant hazelnut.

Taste: Quite an oily mouthfeel, sweet cognac soaked honeyed raisin and sultana with the slightest cherry, almond oil and fresh ground coffee edge, toasted plain scone and some lovely vibrant gentle oak spice.

Finish: A lovely long finish echoing the sweet fruit, gentle coffee and toasted scone on the palate which slowly bitters out to leave the French oak to have the last word.

Comment: If you are looking for an affordable, quality summer dram then grab a bottle of this, at £28 a bottle this will be within the reach of most of us. A cracking cognac rich summer dram with a lovely French oak influence! As always my scoring is based on taste, but if I was to add marks for price/quality then this would certainly have a few more marks, but I could say that about many of Glen Moray's releases.

SMW Whisky Score 89/100
