Harrison Ford
help to co-direct his own Glenmorangie
limited edition — and his verdict? 'Very
nice.'

Glenmorangie Highland single malt Scotch
whisky has revealed that Harrison Ford
has helped create his own
limited-edition release — a whisky
crafted to suit his personal taste. A
long-time enthusiast, the actor
developed a fondness for Glenmorangie
while filming the brand's playful
campaign 'Once Upon a Time in Scotland',
where he appeared as himself. In the
newest instalment, he introduces the
Glenmorangie Harrison Ford Limited
Edition, developed alongside the brand’s
Director of Whisky Creation, Dr Bill
Lumsden MBE. Smooth and refined with a
subtle edge, the whisky earns Ford’s
characteristically understated approval:
"It’s very nice."
This special release is said to capture what Ford
appreciates most about Glenmorangie, a
distillery that has been producing
whisky in the Scottish Highlands for
more than 180 years. He first connected
with Dr Bill during filming at the
distillery, sampling different casks to
pinpoint his flavour preferences. Over
the following months, more samples were
sent to him, allowing both men to refine
the profile until they reached the final
blend. The result combines classic
bourbon cask-aged Glenmorangie with a
portion of whisky finished in toasted
Portuguese red wine casks. The whisky
is said to balance the brand's signature elegance
with a slightly tangy character,
offering bright citrus notes alongside
hints of Muscovado sugar, apricot, and
buttery candy. Its long finish brings
out touches of orange oil, leather, and
oak tannin.
The Glenmorangie Harrison Ford Limited
Edition is unveiled by the actor in a
new episode of Once Upon a Time in
Scotland. Directed by Joel Edgerton and
filmed in Ford's home state of Wyoming,
the piece shows him reflecting on his
time in the Highlands and tasting the
whisky on camera for the first time —
dressed in a kilt.
The final blend clearly met his
expectations, earning his simple
verdict: "It’s nice. It’s very nice."
Ford commented that his experience at
Glenmorangie left a strong impression,
praising the distillery team's
craftsmanship. He described working with
Dr Bill as an opportunity to explore the
creative process behind whisky-making,
blending artistry with scientific
precision. After sampling numerous casks
together, they identified a style that
matched his preferences. While he
enjoyed many of the options, he feels
this limited edition perfectly
represents what he looks for in a
whisky, adding that he is proud of the
result and hopes others will enjoy it as
much as he does.
Dr Bill explained that Ford's enthusiasm
for whisky was evident from the outset,
making him a natural addition to the
Whisky Creation Team for this project.
He noted that the final expression
reflects both Glenmorangie's house style
and Ford's tastes: smooth and elegant,
but with an added layer of complexity.
By combining bourbon cask maturation
with the structure and tang of toasted
Portuguese red wine casks, they created
a whisky with notes of honeysuckle,
citrus, and creamy softness, balanced by
a marmalade-like edge and firm tannins.
He described the whisky as timeless and
full of character — qualities he
believes mirror Ford himself.
To mark the launch, Glenmorangie drew
inspiration from Ford's film career,
producing a Hollywood-style movie poster
in collaboration with artist Julien
Rico, displayed in major cinema
districts including London’s Leicester
Square. The release was also accompanied
by glowing, tongue-in-cheek reviews from
critics such as Mark Kermode, who called
it "a distilled widescreen delight," and
Charles Maclean, who said it "deserves
to win many awards."
