5th instalment of the Glenmorangie 'A
Tale Of...' series, Glenmorangie A Tale
Of Ice Cream.

distillery Glenmorangie last month
unveiled the 5th instalment of their 'A
Tale Of...' series, this time up they
are offering whisky enthusiasts
'Glenmorangie A Tale Of Ice Cream' to
entertain their palates.
The 'A Tale Of...' series highlights the
boundless creativity of its whisky
makers. This latest instalment draws
inspiration from the mouth-watering
flavours of a classic ice cream parlour,
they used high-vanillin casks for the
first time to elevate Glenmorangie's
rich, creamy vanilla notes to new
heights. Glenmorangie tells me that it
offers whisky drinkers melting hints of
peach melba, scoops of vanilla, lemon
sorbet, and a finishing touch of coconut
flakes and toffee sauce, they say that A
Tale of Ice Cream is an indulgent
delight.
To capture the essence of an ice cream
menu in whisky form, Glenmorangie’s
Director of Whisky Creation Dr Bill
Lumsden and Master Blender Gillian
Macdonald blended whisky aged in bourbon
casks with a portion finished in
high-vanillin casks. These new oak casks
were toasted uniquely to increase the
concentration of vanillin—an aromatic
compound that imparts vanilla flavours
to whisky. The Whisky Creation Team
experimented with various toasting
techniques, ultimately selecting the
casks that would best enhance
Glenmorangie’s signature sweet, creamy
character, ensuring the perfect balance
of flavours for maximum indulgence.
Glenmorangie A Tale of Ice Cream is said
to elevate Glenmorangie’s sweet, fruity
character to a luxurious level and its
pastel-toned packaging mirrors the
vibrant colours, textures, and toppings
of a gourmet ice cream parlour.

Producer's
Tasting Notes:
Nose: An
enticing nose of gentle vanilla custard
and butterscotch with a honeyed edge,
orange, apricot and a touch of lemon,
some sweet coconut ice.
Taste: Full
bodied and rich, some creamy vanilla
although not as intense as I was
expecting, buttery, honeycomb infused
with toasted oak and some toasted
almond, orange citrus, apricot, peach,
honey and some lovely oak spices, some
late ginger.
Finish: A
lovely long finish, a touch of vanilla,
a little savoury and buttery, a wee hint
of lingering orange, apricot and peach.
Some ginger, the delicious oak spices
has the final word.
Comment:
I was expecting sweeter and more
vanilla'd, the oak and fruit are the
stars but not in the sweet and vanilla'd
way I was expecting, a little more
savoury than sweet but still a cracking
dram with a lovely long finish.
