Glenmorangie 10 Year Old Review - I Revisit The Classic Dram

23rd October 2020
Review of the Glenmorangie 10 Year Old

Glenmorangie 10 Year OldAs I sat down today to review the new Glenmorangie A Tale Of Cake I thought I would pour myself a dram of the Glenmorangie 10 Year Old which is often my go to single malt to check my palate is in tune before reviewing a new whisky and as the new deliciously sounding limited release Tale of Cake dram is very closely related to the 10 Year Old's DNA what better dram is there to tune my palate.

Also as I haven't reviewed the Glenmorangie 10 Year Old on here for a number of years I thought I would write it up for those of you who perhaps are new to Scotch single malt whisky or as Christmas is now on the horizon perhaps you are looking for a recommendation for a whisky gift for a friend or family member.

Glenmorangie The Original, as the distillery has named it, is a Highland single malt whisky which has been distilled in the tallest stills in Scotland, it was then matured for a minimum of 10 years in a combination of first fill and refill American ex-bourbon oak casks and it is worth noting that Glenmorangie use casks no more than twice unlike many other distilleries who over use casks that in time lend very little to the final whisky.

Bottled at 40% ABV, it is one of the best selling Scotch single malt whiskies you will ever come across  and with  good reason.

You will find the current Glenmorangie core range and some limited releases available from specialist online whisky retailers such as The Whisky Exchange, The Whisky Shop and Master of Malt

For the Glenmorangie 10 Year Old it is always worth checking Amazon where you often find it on offer for around 26 which is a great price for this whisky and remember Amazon offers FREE DELIVERY on orders over 20.

Glenmorangie 10 Year Old Review

William Morrison's Tasting Notes:

Nose: A little fruity and floral, delicate sweet citrus notes of orange and lemon are joined by some fresh apple and pear. A little sweet vanilla toffee and a hint of honey lurking in the background.

Taste: Vanilla with a lovely gentle spiced edge, some mandarin orange, a little toasted oak and honey and a touch of coconut ice.

Finish: A lovely long finish, a mild barley sugar sweetness infused with a gentle coating of oak spice, creamy vanilla, pear and orange fades to leave some lingering honey and almond.

Comment: By its very nature single malt can vary from batch to batch but the Glenmorangie 10 year has remained consistent in flavour profile and quality over the years, perhaps just the slightest change in citrus fruit, vanilla and honey levels can be detected by an observant palate, but not much and probably not noticeable to most palates. As I have already said the Glenmorangie 10 is my go to whisky to check that my palate is in tune before reviewing some expensive dram where my review will perhaps influence whisky drinkers to part with their hard earned cash. I would say for its asking price it is amongst the best entry single malt whiskies from any distillery that you are ever likely to come across and I have probably drunk more Glenmorangie 10 year old over the years than any single malt whisky and I always have a bottle in the cupboard.

The Glenmorangie 10 year old is an outstanding easy drinking, light in character and yet complex dram and always a pleasure, I can highly recommend it, a must try on your whisky journey and I guarantee it is a dram you will come back to again and again. Whether you are buying for yourself or as a gift for a whisky loving friend or relative you really cant go wrong with this.
