Just in time
for Christmas, Glengoyne launch the 5th
edition of their Teapot Dram.
 Glengoyne
has announced the release of
the Glengoyne Teapot Dram V, the fifth
release in a cracking limited release
series that often passes under whisky
drinkers radar.
Bottled as all drams should be if it was
a perfect world, naturally coloured, non
chill-filtered and at a cask strength of
59.6% this big sherried dram which was
matured in first fill Oloroso sherry oak
casks is sure to be on a few whisky
drinkers Christmas lists.
Glengoyne tell me that the Teapot Dram V
is teeming with brown sugar, sweet
fruits and soft spices. Only 3,138
bottles of Teapot Dram V will be
released and it will be available
exclusively from the Glengoyne
Distillery shop priced £90.
For those of you not familiar with the
story behind the Teapot Dram, it was
created in tribute to an old Glengoyne
Distillery tradition which was in place
up until the 1970's: for over 150
years, workers would be given three
fingers of whisky, three times a day.
The less seasoned workers would, to save
face, discreetly pour some of theirs
into a copper teapot on the windowsill.
Their older colleagues – veterans of the
dram, one and all – would intersperse
official drams with unofficial "cups of
tea" from the teapot, ensuring none went
to waste.
