Glengoyne
round off a record breaking award
winning year with a double win for its
excellent Glengoyne 25 year old.
Glengoyne,
the family owned distillery has rounded
off an award winning year with a double
win at the Scottish Field Whisky
Challenge to add to the trophy cabinet,
taking this years win tally to the most
the distillery has ever won in a single
year.
I am pleased to say the excellent
Glengoyne 25 Year Old was awarded the
Top Distillery Bottling and a Silver
Medal in the Over £80 category.
The Scottish Field Whisky Challenge is
now in its fourteenth year and is a key
event in the Scotch whisky trade
calendar. The winners are chosen the way
all whisky competition winners should be
chosen but unfortunately this is not the
case, winners are chosen through blind
tasting by respected industry judges
meaning the whisky is chosen solely on
its own merit.
Proudly commenting on the awards, Neil
Boyd, Commercial Director of Malts for
Ian Macleod Distillers who own Glengoyne
said: "2014 has truly been an
award-winning year for us at Glengoyne
and with another set of awards to add to
our already record number for this year,
this really is a fantastic accolade for
us. We are looking forward to next year
and the successes we hope it will
bring."
The
Glengoyne 25 year old has been matured
exclusively in hand-selected European
oak sherry casks for a quarter of a
century and sits at
the top of the Glengoyne core range
which already includes the Glengoyne 10,
12, 15, 18, 21 year old and Cask
Strength malts.
The distillery is owned by one of Scotland’s
leading, independent, family-owned
distillers, Ian Macleod Distillers Ltd.
Unlike most other single malt whiskies,
Glengoyne dries its malted barley using
only warm air resulting in this
extremely subtle yet complex malt where
all the delicate flavours are freely
expressed.
Glengoyne Distillery - highly regarded
as Scotland’s most beautiful distillery
in Dumgoyne near Loch Lomond – runs its
stills slower than any other distillery,
supporting the claim that Glengoyne
genuinely is "Worth the Wait".
The Glengoyne 25 year old is available from
The Whisky Exchange priced £235.

Glengoyne 25 Year Old Tasting
Notes
|
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose: A lovely fresh clean
nose, a brown sugar sweetness, big
sherried fruitcake notes just urging me
on to have a taste.
Taste:
A silky smooth delivery of juicy dark
sherried fruit, burnt raisins, orange. A
light touch of sweet vanilla tablet
peaks through from behind the
deliciously rich dark fruit A
lovely touch of cinnamon and ginger.
Finish: Long lingering dark
sherried fruit that is juicy to the end
and a lovely slowly drying mild oak
spice.
Comment:
Big sherried drams are often described
as tasting like fruit cake but in this
case I would describe this as a luxury
fruit cake. This really is a top quality
big rich sherried whisky and it is
fitting that it now sits at the top of
the Glengoyne core range and hats off to
Glengoyne for bottling it at 48% ABV
which adds to the taste experience. The
price tag is a big ask at around £155
more than the superb Glengoyne 21 year
old but if you have deep pockets or are
looking for something very special to
spoil yourself then I guarantee this
won't disappoint if you like a big
sherried whisky. I think I now need to revisit the rest
of the Glengoyne core range.
