Glenglassaugh Distillery has released The Serpentine Coastal Cask Collection; a collection of old and rare cask bottlings dating back to the 1970s. The Collection launches with three expressions a Glenglassaugh 1974 48 Year Old, 1973 49 Year Old and 1972 51 Year Old.

Glenglassaugh The Serpentine Coastal Cask Collection

Nestled on the tranquil north east coast of the Scottish Highlands, Glenglassaugh Distillery has unveiled a series of old and rare cask bottling's hailing from the 1970s.

Named after the precious serpentine marble found in the cliffs surrounding Glenglassaugh Distillery, The Serpentine Coastal Cask Collection debuts with three old and rare expressions. Each of these, drawn from a single cask and uniquely numbered, boasts an age exceeding 48 years, encapsulating the coastal essence of Highland whisky.

Having remained dormant for over two decades, Glenglassaugh emerged as a hidden treasure on Scotland's rugged north east coast in 2008. During its slumber, the distillery had quietly stored an exceptional assortment of casks in its coastal warehouses, with some maturing for more than five decades. Three of these remarkably rare single casks will be globally accessible come spring.

True to the character of all Glenglassaugh offerings, the spirit is said to have been intricately influenced by the elements of land and sea. Each cask promises its own extraordinarily unique sensory journey, unveiling diverse facets of the distillery's coastal identity and heritage.

Rachel Barrie, Master Blender at Glenglassaugh Distillery, said: "The legacy of our most sought after casks date back to the 1970s when these precious liquids were first laid down, patiently harnessing rich natural colour and sublime character, naturally forming the apex of our single malt whisky.

"It is extremely rare to find casks which have been left to mature in coastal locations for such a long period of time, and our warehouses, perched on cliffs overlooking Sandend Bay, have acted as the custodians of this old and rare liquid for over five decades. These casks give a unique insight into the nature of whisky making at the distillery before it was closed and capture a moment in time like few other expressions can."

The inaugural first three single casks released in the Glenglassaugh Serpentine Collection are:
