GlenDronach Kingsman Edition 1991 VintageFrom the Highlands to Hollywood, GlenDronach distillery has partnered with 20th Century Fox to mark the release of the "Kingsman The Golden Circle" movie with the launch of a limited edition 25 year old expression - The GlenDronach Kingsman Edition 1991 Vintage.

Apparently The GlenDronach whisky is a personal favourite of Kingsman Film Director, Matthew Vaughn, so I am sure it was an easy task for him to partner with the GlenDronach Master Blender Rachel Barrie to create the 25 year old 1991 vintage sherry cask matured GlenDronach.

Kingsman Film Director Matthew Vaughn said: "A Kingsman is smooth, elegant and packs a punch, as does The GlenDronach - so it felt like the perfect fit. I selected the 1991 vintage as it marks birth year of ‘Eggsy’, who is also known as Kingsman agent Galahad. It’s really special to get a limited edition vintage like this, and even more so as The GlenDronach is my favourite single malt whisky. I hope Kingsman fans around the world enjoy it as much as I do."

The GlenDronach Kingsman Edition 1991 Vintage is a limited release of 2000 individually hand-numbered bottles, non chill filtered and as always for The GlenDronach naturally coloured. Bottled at 48.2% ABV the distillery describe the whisky as "Deep walnut brown in colour, with waves of black grapes on a woody vine on the nose, ripe Victoria plum on the palate with a lingering and warm finish". As you would expect for such a limited release it is presented in premium packaging which features a custom Kingsman gold metal charm. Both the Whisky Maker and Film Director’s signatures adorn the bottle’s packaging.

The "Kingsman The Golden Circle" movie will be in cinemas from September 20th. The GlenDronach Kingsman Edition 1991 Vintage which has a RRP of £550 is sure to appeal to film fans and whisky collectors alike and can be purchased from specialist online whisky shops such as Master of Malt from September 2017.

GlenDronach Kingsman Edition 1991 Review

William Morrison's Tasting Notes (Review added 19th September 2017):

Nose: Magnificent sultry, enticing crushed sultanas and wood spice, hiding behind it is a little dark chocolate and sweet malt.

Taste:
Luscious dark sherried fruit, a delicious mix of fresh and burnt raisins and sultanas lead, joined by orange, a light oaky vanilla sweetness peaks through from behind the lovely dark fruit, a little ripe cherries and then the appearance of a touch of dry ginger.

Finish:
A long lingering finish, the sherry fades leaving mildly drying oak tinged coffee and a little bitter dark chocolate.

Comment: And the Oscar for Best Whisky selected by a movie director goes to "
Kingsman Film Director, Matthew Vaughn", a truly stunning sherried expression from the GlenDronach even amongst their high standards this is outstanding. The very best sherry casks are at play here, from the nose to the incredibly long delicious finish it is outstanding. If you are ever going to spoil yourself with a good sherried whisky you will not find many much better than this.

SMW Score 95/100

RRP of £550, available worldwide and can be purchased from specialist online whisky shops such as Master of Malt from September 2017.
