Distillers One of One Auction
Glencairn
Crystal, the esteemed Scottish glassware
company known for its award-winning
products, including its sturdy wee Glencairn whisky
tasting glass which I am sure you are
familiar with, is sponsoring the
second edition of the world's most
prestigious ultra-rare whisky auction:
The Distillers One of One. This
family-run business has also
meticulously crafted bottles and
decanters for 11 out of the 39
exceptional lots featuring
extraordinary, once-in-a-lifetime
whiskies from various distilleries
across Scotland.
The auction is scheduled to take place
at the historic Hopetoun House near
Edinburgh on Thursday, October 5th, in
collaboration with Sotheby's.
Globally recognised in the industry as a
top-tier crystal decanter and glassware
manufacturer, Glencairn Crystal boasts
over four decades of pioneering
expertise. Their skilled artisans have
handcrafted nearly a third of the
exquisite vessels that will contain the
whiskies offered at the unique whisky
auction. These vessels range from
special bottling's to breathtaking,
bespoke, one-of-a-kind decanters.
Hand-blown, exquisitely hand-engraved,
and adorned with meticulous decoration,
many of these decanters hold
exceptionally unique whiskies sourced
from the oldest and rarest casks,
spanning decades of whisky history, with
some aging for over 50 years. It is
anticipated that several of these
special auction lots, housed in
Glencairn decanters, will fetch
substantial sums, including one that is
expected to exceed £100,000.
The Distillers' Charity, the
philanthropic branch of the Worshipful
Company of Distillers, in conjunction
with Sotheby's, organised the inaugural
Distillers One of One auction in 2021.
It achieved record-breaking hammer
prices across more than 40 distinct
lots, raising over £3 million. Of this,
over £2.4 million was donated to the
Distillers' Charity, primarily
benefiting the Youth Action Fund, which
is dedicated to assisting disadvantaged
young people in Scotland.
The 2023 Distillers One of One auction
will once again raise funds for The
Youth Action Fund, aimed at transforming
the life prospects of Scottish young
individuals between the ages of 16 and
25. This fund comprises a portfolio of
six charitable partners, each bringing
their expertise and experience to help
young people from underprivileged
backgrounds achieve sustainable
employability outcomes. These partner
charities include Aberdeen Foyer, Action
for Children, ENABLE Works, FARE
Scotland, Street League, and Alcohol
Education Trust.
