Review of the
new GlenAllachie 9 Year Old Fino Sherry
Cask Finish, a great example of a
light, dry fino sherry finish on a
quality malt whisky, a deliciously
juicy, moreish mix of barley and fruit.
Being just a finish it isn't overly dry
which can happen with too much time in a
fino cask.
 The
GlenAllachie 9 Year Old Fino Sherry Cask
Finish is one of the first 3 of 6 Sherry
Cask finished drams in the GlenAllachie's new
Wood Collection Series.
Each whisky in the new ‘Sherry Series’
in the the GlenAllachie Wood Collection
has been aged for 9 Years, each began
its journey in American oak ex-Bourbon
barrels before being transferred to
carefully chosen Sherry casks.
The series will undoubtedly give whisky
drinkers an interesting insight into the
different types of sherry cask finishes
and what they contribute to a whisky.
Fino, distinguished by its pale
appearance and being the driest Sherry
style, undergoes biological ageing for
at least two years under a layer of
yeast that prevents oxidation.
The final period of maturation in former Fino hogsheads has
resulted in this limited edition Scotch
whisky.
Bottled at 48% ABV, non-chill filtered
and naturally coloured, it has a RRP of
£60

Tasting Notes:
Nose: Honey'd
creamy vanilla custard with a gentle
sugared almond edge, some pear and sweet
raisin.
Taste: Deliciously
rich and smooth, creamy vanilla'd
butterscotch with a sugar almond edge
leads closely followed by some lovely
gentle orange, juicy sultana and a late
gentle oak spice.
Finish: Long,
a
delicious lingering toffee'd, juicy
fruit, drying, gently spiced and oaky finale.
Comment:
