Established in 1797, this small distillery takes its name from the Valley of the Garioch, traditionally the finest barley growing area of Scotland. There is a saying that from small beginnings come great things and this could not be more true for Glen Garioch.

Glen Garioch malt is a light clean malt that has some spice and peat to give it some body. Glen Garioch is part of the Morrison Bowmore group which includes Bowmore, Auchentoshan and Glen Garioch. Morrison Bowmore bought the Glen Garioch distillery in 1970 with the intention of owning a distillery in each whisky region that was representative of the characteristics you would find in that region. You will find that Bowmore has a far more heavily peated Islay character and Auchentoshan’s a light Lowland character are contrasted by Glen Garioch’s spicy gingeriness.

Glen Garioch Tasting Notes

Glen Garioch 15 Year Old Single Malt.
Colour: Golden - honey.
Nose: Heather fire smoke, together with lavender and hits of syrupy sweetness. The oak notes are more evident now giving a complexity that is not often found in the highland malts.
Taste: Smokey and sweet, lots of malty mash flavours, very smooth and warm. The oak, mixing well with the lavender and violet notes, produce a fine example of true highland whisky.
Finish: Long and mellow, with a character that is honest and dependable. No fancy gimmicks with this dram.
