Spirits appoints Matt McKay to reawaken
The London Distillery Company.
Gleann Mòr
Spirits, a family-owned spirits
producer, has announced the appointment
of Matt McKay as Managing Director and
Whisky Maker for The London Distillery
Company (TLDC).
Starting his new role in January 2025,
Matt will oversee the revival of the
distillery, which originally operated in
Battersea and Bermondsey from 2011 to
2020. The revitalization follows Gleann
Mòr Spirits’ acquisition of the company
in 2023.
As part of this endeavour, Matt will
breathe fresh life into TLDC, once
renowned as London’s first whisky
distillery since the closure of the Lea
Valley Distillery in 1903. His initial
focus will be on crafting expressions
from the distillery’s remaining single
malt whisky stocks. Additionally, he
will blend casks from contemporary
English whisky producers, ensuring the
new releases capture the style and
character envisioned for TLDC’s future.
Matt brings extensive expertise in the
whisky industry, having previously
served as Director of Whisky Creation
and Outreach at Dunphail Distillery and
as Director of Communications at Bimber
Distillery. At Bimber, he played a
pivotal role in positioning the
distillery as a leader in craft whisky
production.
Commenting on the appointment, the

Company, bringing with him outstanding
knowledge of the whisky industry, and
English whisky in particular. Gleann Mòr
has grown significantly over the last
few years, and the rebirth of TLDC is an
important and exciting part of our
ambitious next chapter."
Matt added: "This is not just a role for
me, it’s a deep-seated passion, and I
therefore could not be prouder to be
leading a renewed TLDC. Whilst the
company has waxed and waned many times
since it was first established by Ralph
Dodd in 1807, alongside the highly
talented Gleann Mòr Spirits team, I am
greatly looking forward to inspiring
enthusiasts around the world to discover
and appreciate both the past and the
bright new future of TLDC."
Alongside his leadership role at TLDC,
Matt will contribute to Gleann Mòr’s
broader operations, including the
acclaimed "Rare Find" series of
independently bottled whiskies.
Leveraging his extensive expertise, Matt
will aid the Gleann Mòr team in pursuing
strategic growth objectives while
enhancing the recognition and
appreciation of the company’s single
malt whiskies and premium spirits.
