Review of of
the peaty, sherried 1770 Peated No.1
release from the Glasgow distillery.
 Announced
earlier this year, the Glasgow 1770
Peated Release N0.1 has now joined the
Glasgow distillery's whisky range.
Crafted by smoking the finest barley to
50ppm with aromatic heather-rich peat
from the Scottish Highlands and
combining it with the exceptionally pure
water of the city of Glasgow's water
supply, Loch Katrine, carefully
hand-crafting it in the distillery’s two
unique copper pot stills, Tara and
Mhairi.
The peated spirit has matured in
first-fill ex-sherry casks and was then
finished in virgin oak, Glasgow 1770
Peated is described as a sublime and
sophisticated smoky single malt.
Bottled at 46% ABV, it is naturally
coloured, non-chill-filtered and has an
RRP of £49 for a 50cl bottle.

Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Gentle sweet peat smoke and vanilla
toffee, some distant dark fruit.
Taste:
Burnt oak and vanilla toffee with a
brown sugared dark mildly sherried fruty
edge and all infused with a delicious
sweet and earthy peat smoke.
Finish:
A delicious long and lingering finish
with orange and vanilla infused peat
lingering for an age.
Comment:
Given my Glasow connections, and with my
long gone and dearly missed father and
uncle having worked in Kinclaith, the
last operational distillery in Glasgow
until The Glasgow Distillery went into
production in 2012 and put Glasgow back
on the Scotch whisky map I am pleased to
say that the Gllasgpw 1770 Peated
Release No.1 is a very drammable quality
young peated expression with a lovely
sherried influence. I suspect things can
only get better from Glasgow but for now
if you enjoy a young peaty dram with a
wee bit of a sherried edge then this is
hard to beat and all bottled at a
flavoursome 46%.
