Gordon & MacPhail reveal the fourth and final 125th Anniversary bottling, a Glencraig 1975, which was distilled in Lomond Stills, which operated within Speyside’s Glenburgie Distillery.

Gordon & MacPhail Glencraig 1975 (Glenburgie) 125th Anniversary EditionElgin based independent whisky creator and bottler Gordon & MacPhail has revealed the fourth and final whisky in their extremely rare and unique series of whiskies commemorating their 125th year in the whisky business.

The much-anticipated final whisky in the series is a Glencraig single cask, single malt whisky which was distilled in Lomond Stills, which operated within Speyside’s Glenburgie Distillery, before production ceased after just 23 years.

The Gordon & MacPhail Glencraig 1975 was matured in Cask No. 9686, a refill American hogshead cask, which was laid down on Thursday 30th October 1975 and bottled 44 years later on Thursday 28th May 2020 at 54.2% ABV.

The cask produced just 110 bottles which I am sure you can imagine you will need deep pockets if you wish to taste it, the Glencraig 1975 has a RRP of £1500.

Gordon & MacPhail tells me that the golden-hued whisky offers aromas of honey, coconut and oak. The taste brings flavours of rich nectarines, white pepper, lime and cocoa beans, with a soft herbal edge. A medium finish follows, embodied with citrus and lingering floral notes.

Most of the of the Glencraig whisky was destined for blended malts and was scarcely seen as a single malt which has led to the light and fruity single malt becoming a prized addition to any whisky collection.

Stephen Rankin, a fourth-generation member of Gordon & MacPhail’s owning family and the company’s Director of Prestige, said: "While it’s bittersweet to share the last remaining drops of these ultra-rare whiskies, they embody a fitting tribute to 125 years spent in pursuit of perfection. These four releases provide a personal legacy for all who have worked at Gordon & MacPhail over the decades culminating in these exquisite and unique drams found nowhere else."

The Gordon & MacPhail Glencraig 1975 has a RRP of £1500 will be available from specialist online whisky retailers such as as as The Whisky Exchange and Master of Malt
