|
|
The Macallan has released The Red Collection which combines the distillery's oldest-ever ongoing bottlings a 50, 60 and 70 year old with a limited release of some of the oldest ever released by The Macallan a 71, 74 and 78 year old.
As you can imagine you will need very deep pockets to taste any of the collection, if anyone fancies treating me to a bottle it is already listed a The Whisky Shop
If you want to read more about the collection including a tasting note in case you cant get hold of a bottle for yourself see here:

| I really would love to taste them to see how good they are but they are way beyond my budget. |

| Macallan really is the rich mans dram, I do like to think whoever buys whiskies like this opens them to drink. |

Yes the auction is for charity, to quote Williams piece on it:
| Quote: | | To mark the release of The Macallan Red Collection a extremely rare, complete set of The Red Collection with exclusive labels illustrated by Javi Aznarez whose work will feature in Wes Anderson’s upcoming feature, The French Dispatch, will be auctioned by Sotheby’s to raise funds for global food charity City Harvest, which redistributes surplus from the food industry to vulnerable people across London. The Sotheby’s auction runs from 22 October to 31 October 2020and is estimated to fetch between £200,000 and £800,000. |
I wonder who got bottle's No.1 |

Aha, missed that part, good that the money is going somewhere useful than.
N01 is probably with some wealthy investor in Asia?
To be honest I never understood why N01 is always worth that much more? Its literally the same spirit from the same cask(s)...
Found this mc'Nean a bit mad.Bottle n01 £46000
https://whiskyauctioneer.com/lot/281402/ncnean-ainnir-bottle-001
Some other bottle of the same batch: £361
https://whiskyauctioneer.com/lot/292815/ncnean-ainnir
Same whisky different order of labelling... More then 100x pricepoint |

| That's is some example of how bottle number inflate the price in the whisky collector and investor market. As a drinker bottle numbers mean nothing to me. |

Aberdeenshire based online whisky auction Whisky Hammer has informed me that they have a bottle of The Macallan Red Collection 78 Year Old up for grabs in their current auction.
https://www.scotchmaltwhisky.co.uk/macallan78yearoldauction.htm
Given that the Macallan 78 Year Old was listed in the Whisky Hammer auction only one day after its release, and wondering how this could have been possible to get hold of a bottle so quickly and get it authenticated and entered into the auction I asked Whisky Hammer about it and they told me: "It is being sold by a private seller, not Whisky Hammer and not Macallan".
At the time of typing this the auction has four days to run and the current bidding is £75,000 but the reserve has not yet been met but it will certainly be interesting to see if a whisky of this price can be flipped so quickly for a profit and what will the profit be. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Not that I was browsing to buy but I did notice that The Whisky Shop listed the Macallan 78 at £100000 when it was launched, quite a mark up on £65500 as William said and they appear to have sold out, I wonder how many bottles they sold, a nice earner for them.
TWE don't seem to be listing them and haven't revealed their price, you have to contact them if interested. I haven't spotted any of the collection on Master of Malt but the prices they quote on their blog is the same as the prices RRPs William has stated. |

| If it really is being auctioned by a private seller as William has been told then some flipper could be about to be left with a very expensive bottle of the Macallan |
