Overpriced colour I suspect. Whats the price on this? Not a big Macallan fan here, but guess they need to pay for their new surroundings.

William had posted a piece on the Macallan Edition No 5 in the Whisky News section earlier this week, it does have some info on how the purple packaging came about, a tasting note and it does spell colour with a letter "U" so I can only guess the image you have seen was the US version of the packaging.

Just looked at the image on the link you posted.

On the front of the bottle it says "This Limited Edition whisky celebrates The Macallan's spectrum of natural colour which has inspired the world renowned Panatone color institute..."

So two different spellings of colour in the same sentence. Very poor.

It says "Panatone color institute" because that is the name of the US based company/institute and they wouldn't alter the spelling even on the UK packaging but they do use the spelling "colour" on the UK packaging.. Personally I am not that bothered about the packaging one way or another I am more interested in the whisky and the Macallan Edition series has been good so far IMO

Not very impressed about the colour... but i might be wrong

I mean, if even this doesn't put one off Macallan, nothing will.

I honestly wonder why anyone on the planet would ever buy this, aside from completing a collection (which is something I'll never get, but at least I can understand the rationale).

Avoiding like the plague. Why focus on colour over flavour? Madness. Also a cynical ballot designed to create hype when the run is probably 100k bottles plus, at least. It's sad what Macallan are becoming now. Pumping out mediocre NAS whisky under the guise of being limited to create hype.

Kind of hoping for a macallan price implosion. Used to enjoy the 18 sherry oak but at today's prices it offers no value anymore. My father and I would enjoy a bottle of 18 over the festive period every year. Three years ago we decided there was far better value out there. Had a Glendronach 18 last year. Looking at a glenfarclas 25 this year.
