I am sure a few of you will be pleased to hear that the rich sherried GlenDronach 15 Year Old Revival is returning after a 3 year absence.

It will only be available for the next four weeks from the GlenDronach Distillery shop and thereafter it will be released globally and will be available from specialist online whisky retailers such as Master of Malt

That is good news, this new batch of the Glendronach 15 has a lot to live up to as it was a outstanding whisky and hopefully still is.

Ah yes, I saw that yesterday - good news, especially given how much this has been going for at auctions recently.

It will be interesting to compare this with pre-2015 batches though - it looks like it's not the same recipe, and not only because the last batches were older by necessity. I see the new one says it was matured in both Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez casks, whereas the old one was exclusively Oloroso. It's tough to judge from photos, but it looks like the new one is a bit lighter too. I would expect the new 15 to be more similar in character to the 12 year-old (also matured in both Oloroso and PX) than to the previous iterations of the 15.

This isn't a criticism - can't wait to find out!

Me too.. As already said will be interesting to do a comparison although the bottle I have stashed away was less impressive with than earlier ones to my mind.

Price will be interesting also given the current climate..Edit.. just re read and seen the £62 tag.. Thats a fair enough increase from the 45 or so I paid for the last one I reckon.

I agree with this - I found a couple of circa 2013 bottles to be more impressive than a 2015 one, despite the greater age of the latter. But in the case of the newer one I think the character altogether will be different, given the maturation in different types of casks.

Yes I had noticed the auction prices so its return is very welcome. I don't have any of the earlier stuff left to compare unfortunately, mine is long gone, but looking forward to tasting the new 15 year old when I get a chance..

I would guess that making the new expression of the 15 year old a combination of Oloroso and PX casks rather than exclusively Oloroso casks was a move decided by maturing stock levels. If it is a 3 year older version of the current 12 year old I wont be complaining.

Neither will I - I'm a big fan of the 12 year-old as well (though I was disappointed to find out I preferred the Macallan 12 at a blind tasting!) and I see no reason why I wouldn't like this new 15.

Yes good news, I will be in the queue for a bottle, fingers crossed it is worth the asking price.

Yes a welcome return. It did vary in quality when it was launched back in 2009,from very good to absolutely superb, I think that was due to the varying age but always minimum 15 years stock that went into it, I suspected sometimes it was much older. A good move by Glendronach back then it certainly got the distillery noticed. I will look forward to trying this latest expression.

The great thing about it was that you could be 100% sure it was much older - for example a 2015 bottling would have been at least 19 years old, and likely have casks older than 20, given the distillery's mothballing in 1996.

I used to source my Glendronach 15 from travel retail a few years back as I travel a lot and I would have swore that it was at least 20 years old, I could kick myself for not having picked up more at the time when passing through the airport but I did get through a few of the 1 litre bottles.

For those of you that may not have spotted it already in the Whisky News section of the main site, I tasted and added my review of the new Glendronach 15 year old Revival and it is still an absolutely delicious sherried Speyside dram IMO

You can read my review here:

http://www.scotchmaltwhisky.co.uk/glendronach15yearoldrevival.htm

I also revisited the Glendronach 12 year old and added a review here:
