Have you got a spare £5.5 million burning a hole in your pocket and you do you fancy being part of Edinburgh's first Scotch whisky distillery in 90 years?
Following on from being granted planning permission from the City of Edinburgh Council last year the folks behind Edinburgh's planned Holyrood Distillery are now seeking investors for the the project and have launched a £5.5 million funding drive to help fund the balance of their ambition to create a distillery and visitor centre.
You would have thought that they would have had the investment in place by this stage. I would expect to own a major share of the distillery if I put in £5.5 million and there was only previously £500,000 invested.
I would guess that they are looking for one or two major investors rather than some sort of crowd funding. I would have thought that the banks would be happy to back this if it was a viable business plan that way they would own the distillery once the debt is paid back.
The planned Holyrood Distillery has moved another step closer to bringing malt whisky distilling back to Scotland's capitol city, Edinburgh. The distillery has recruited three experts from the whisky industry, including Jack Mayo as Head Distiller, Bill Farrar as Sales and Marketing Director and Laura Anderson as Director of Finance.
