Kilchoman have released Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2016, the 5th release of the limited edition whisky, this release is a combination of 17 casks which will be available worldwide, fresh and refill Oloroso sherry butts over six years of age, making this the oldest release of Loch Gorm to date.
Kilchoman say that the added maturation and combination of fresh and refill sherry casks provide a balance of powerful rich flavours, spicy notes and peat smoke.

| I notice that last years release of the Kilchoman Loch Gorm has not sold out yet, as good a whisky as it is, perhaps buyers are telling Kilchoman this is overpriced. |

Last year's was also not as good as the previous year. I found it a bit flatter and lacking. Nice, but just nice. _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

Had an email from Kilchoman that the new Loch Gorm 2017 is out on Monday (3rd April).
I've never tried any of their line-up, but I'm liking the smoke/sherry combination elsewhere lately, so this has caught my eye at least. I should probably try another, cheaper offering of theirs first though to see how I feel.
P.S. I got myself all confused with years and ages before quickly deleting my original comment here.... I may have a PhD in mathematics, but it appears I can't do simple sums. I blame lack of sleep! :D |

I was at a Kilchoman tasting last month and all the drams were very good, there was no Loch Gorm on offer but the Sanaig (some Sherry casks involved here) was probably the pick of the night, so maybe that's one to try.
If I recall correctly I had a bottle of Loch Gorm a couple of years ago when I really had very little whisky experience, it was good but I'm sure I'd appreciate it a lot more now |
