Received an email from Laphroaig announcing the release of Laphroaig Lore

Quote:
LAPHROAIG LORE.
‘Lore’ is a stunningly complex marriage of the classical Laphroaig styles and many ages of Laphroaig. Drawing from the very best liquid from a range of cask types including ex-Bourbon, Oloroso Sherry hogsheads and quarter casks, Laphroaig Lore is the story of Laphroaig itself. The result is outstanding. It is the epitome of what one expects from a non-chill filtered Laphroaig single malt whisky, all delightful seaside minerals, smoke, fudge, vanillas and nuts on the nose, exceptionally rich, peaty and a spicy chili-like bite to taste, then dry and sweet to finish. Wonderfully balanced, it’s our story, bottled, the richest of the rich.”

Its going to be hard for Laphroaig to push this, alot of people last year were buying the quarter cask for under £30 and the 18 for under £60.

At the same time if Ardbeg were pushing this it would be sold out already.

Ardbeg is very different. Stock storages and cult status lead to collectability which lead to high value which lead to fast sellouts. Laphroaig don't have these issues.

With he 18 being discontinued too this year the lowest price I've seen it is £80 and I've also seen it over £100.

Saying that, the Triple wood was very similar (bourbon, PX and quarter cask), unfiltered, and was only around £35....wasn't great though. With the not so great views on the Select too they need to up their game and many people may feel less confident about spending money on a mega aced, triple stirred, dash of eye of newt, no age statement Laphroaig.......

Problem is Laphroaig are trying to convince us they have stock shortages(which they possibly do) and convince themselves/us they are collectable.

Just checked I paid £61 for the 18 last February.

Agree with the triple wood and select.

Did anyone get the survey about choosing the new travel retail bottle? Amazing how they can make the exact same whisky sound like four different whiskys.

Distilled at Laphroaig and created by marketing people Laughing

It will be a difficult sell at £75 a bottle, especially to knowledgeable whisky drinkers, and as I stocked up on the Quarter Cask and 18 year old last year I have plenty of stock of Laphroaig to keep me happy for now. If I read some brilliant reviews then I may be tempted but they would have to be some very good reviews.

Well, I bought one. I'll let you know how it goes when I get home in a couple of weeks.

I am going to wait for some reviews on the Laphroaig Lore as I have been disappointed by some Laphroaig no age statement whiskies in recent years, the Triple wood for example as mentioned by others above, I found it very disappointing.

I have reviewed the new Laphroaig Lore, it really is a deliciously peaty powerful beast of a Laphroaig, Laphroaig as you expect it to be, Laphroaig as you want it to be, big powerful and bold.

You can read my review here:

Does sound good and interesting that Laphroaig are leaking out some info on the ages of the whisky in Lore.

Yes it does sound good, great unpretentious notes as always William. I have emailed my brother to grab me a bottle as he will be over to see me next month.
