Last week Murray Cohen, who you all may know as forum member Quaich1 attended an "Evening of Scottish Virtuosity" in Toronto, Canada where he had the opportunity to taste the new Mortlach whisky range which was presented by brand ambassador Georgie Bell. Murray also got the chance to taste some of Diageo's ultra-premium Scotch whiskies which were presented by Stuart Brown, Diageo whisky ambassador.
These are all premium whiskies and have premium price tags. The Mortlach whiskies especially have caused a bit of a stir in the whisky drinking community because of the price tags and also the 50cl bottle size. Price aside; there have been very few reviews on the new range so thanks to Murray for submitting his reviews of the new whiskies which as you will read he was very impressed with.
Murray also tasted and reviewed 3 other premium whiskies from Diageo for us, again these are 3 expressions which we rarely see reviewed by anyone other than those whose business is to sell you whisky so thanks to Murray for these reviews which like the Mortlach whiskies he was very impressed with.
Read Murray's reviews here:

Murray your notes do make the new Mortlachs sound very good. I loved the Mortlach 16 Flora & Fauna but what really puts me off the new Mortlachs is the 50cl bottle, just no need for that, they can market it how they like and put some rarity spin on the bottle size but it isnt for me.
Is it 50cl in Canada or will you be lucky like the US and get 750cl, if so does the bigger bottle increase the price over what we will pay here? |

Fergie, it's interesting that the Rare Old Mortlach is sold here in Ontario, Canada at 75cl. The John Walker & Sons Odyssey is also available here as a 75cl offering. The Mortlach18 and 25 were only available to folks who attended the evening and I believe both were offered in 75cl bottles. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

Grant, 52.5 British pounds equivalent for 75 cl bottle in Ontario for Mortlach Rare Old. I have one here. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

Cheers Murray entertaining and informative tasting notes once again, just read through them while drinking a Glenfiddich 18 which seems a little inferior next to the line up you tasted. The Mortlachs do sound good but like others i want a full bottle when i pay these prices.
I think i could be tempted by the John Walker & Sons Odyssey and i have had the Glen Ord 30 and 28 year old, i got the 30 a few years back when they slashed the priice both were very good. |

| I do like the sherried malts so i will give the Mortlach Rare Old a go as it appears to be the only new Mortlach available here, i see it is Can$100 for a 750cl bottle which is not too bad here. I would love to try the others also but I am limited to what the whisky companies makes available in Canada. |

| The Mortlach 25 does sound good, i am sure i would love it but too rich for my whisky budget. I wonder why 43.4% ABV was chosen for the strength of the 3 new Mortlachs, not exactly a number you pull out the air. |

| I have always been a big fan of the Mortlach F & F 16 year old and have 12 bottles in the cupboard as i knew it was on the way out. I havent tried any of the new range yet but have ordered a bottle of the Mortlach Rare Old after reading your notes Murray and will probably give the 18 a go at some point although like others i am not happy with this stupid 50cl bottle size. Will ithe travel retail bottle, i for get what it was called, be 50cl also? |

The Mortlach Rare Old Special Strength travel retail is indicated to be 50cl in Europe. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."
