|
|
New core range release from Highland Park. It does sound good and should be but you may need to dig deep into your pockets for this one price tag is around £65 released this July.
HIGHLAND PARK DARK ORIGINS
Dark Origins is inspired by the cunning spirit and courageous personality of Highland Park's infamous founder, Magnus Eunson.
This latest addition to the core expressions uses twice as many first fill sherry casks than in the classic Highland Park 12 year old resulting in a naturally darker, richer flavour.
Tasting Notes
Colour: Rich mahogany
Nose: Sherried spice and ripe bananas combine with toasted hazelnuts and baked apple
Palate: Well-balanced, dry peat at first mellowing out to maraschino cherries, warm dark chocolate entices the palate
Finish: Enduring sweet smoke
Additional Information
Volume:70cl
ABV:46.8%
Category: Core Expressions.[/img] |

| It does sound good and a decent bottling strength but i think i will have to read a few reviews saying it is very good before spending £65 on a NAS HP. |

| I like the spider diagram tasting note image which describes it as "mature". Not a big surprise that they are now releasing a NAS into the domestic market but the price is surprising, i guess you have to pay more for a whisky with a "courageous personality". |

| I wonder if it is naturally darker or has artificial colouring been used? |

According to a tasting video (from a few years ago) with their master distiller all Highland Parks are natural colour. |

I would assume with it saying on the bottle it's Non chill filtered, bottled at 46.8 ABV and covered in black packaging that no E150 has been added. I mean you might as well tick all three boxes, rather than just 2 ?. |

| I am not a fan of whisky companies not declaring the age and was not impressed when the HP 18 price went up to £100 this year but unfortunately i am still a big fan of Highland Park so i will certainly give this a try and hope it is very good for the money, the extra sherry influence certainly is appealing along side the HP unique peat and bottled at a decent strength. |

I think I read it was an addition to the core range which would probably mean yes. _________________ Talisker 18 - the rest are just details |

Hopefully it is better quality than some of the HP travel retail offerings which were not bad but i found them disappointing, i preferted the short lived vintage series from travel retail and only the older ones of these were very good.
The extra sherry in the Highland Park Dark Origin makes this more interesting to me also and if it still lets the HP smoke and honey shine through then they have a winner, unless it is packed full of young whisky. Fingers crossed it is a good one as the HP18 has moved out of my everyday drinking whisky price range. |

| Having only recently tried the Highland Park 18 for the first time i will certainly give this a go if the reviews are good as i loved the 18 year old but it is expensive to be a regular tipple. |

I tasted the new Highland Park Dark Origins last night, certainly a deeper, darker and deliciously sherry richer Highland Park.
I added my thoughts here:

| It does sound good William, even without tasting it myself i would say they are pushing it with the price tag. |
