My single malt scotch club has announced 2 of the 3 single malts being offered at our next dinner and tasting next week in Niagara Ontario. I would be pleased to hear your impressions of these single malt expressions.

Jura Elixir 12 YO 46%

Glen Keith 18 YO Cask Strength

I have had a couple of bottles of the Jura Elixir, they sell it in half bottles (35cl) here and i am sure it is only 40% ABV

It is a nice fruity (sherry) spicy expression of Jura, I wonder if they are now bottling it in full size bottles and at a higher abv of 46%, i hope so.

Not tried the Glen Keith, is it an independent bottling?

Hi Gregor. They didn't mention if the Glen Keith was an independent bottling. I'll let you know after the tasting event. The Elixir that they are serving here is definitely 46% abv and I am assuming a full size bottle. Again, I'll let you know post event.

I have only come across the Jura Elixir 35cl 40% bottle, which was exclusively available in Sainsburys supermarket. Sounds like they have a higher strength version of it now.

Quaich1, if it is a higher strength version of the Elixir i am sure it will be good, as Gregor has said it is a fruity and wee bit spicy expression of Jura and very easy to drink.

You dont come across Glen Keith that often, i would guess as it is a cask strength bottling you will be tasting it will likely be from a indie bottler.

I have only known the Jura Elixir 40% bottle which was available exclusively in Sainsburys. But i just checked a picture which Jura sent to me recently when they announced they had updated the Jura packaging www.scotchmaltwhisky.co.uk/jurawhiskynewlook.htm and it shows a 70cl, 46% abv bottle of Jura

I wonder if the Sainsburys exclusive Jura Elixir has been a trial and they are now rolling out a 46% version of the Jura Elixir. I shall see what i can find out.

Murray, I hope you enjoy your dinner and tasting. I am just home and found a reply from Jura about the Jura Elixir.
There are now two versions of Jura Elixir, one general market and one UK. The gm one is bottled at 46% and only available in France, some Germany and Nordics.

The UK one was only available in 35cl 40% then moved to 70 as well. That's now available to all retailers not just Sainsbury's.
