Tullamore Dew 12 Year Old Special Reserve is being launched in the UK. This latest addition to the Tullamore range in the UK will provide a premium offering to complement the very popular original Tullamore Dew blend.

It is a blend of three different types of triple distilled Irish whiskey - pot still whiskey, malt whiskey and grain whiskey. The three types of Irish whiskey in the blend are all aged between 12-15 years in ex-bourbon and Olorosso Sherry casks.

There is a higher percentage pot still and malt whiskey in the blend than what you will find in the standard Tullamore Dew blend and this is obvious in the taste.

2011 has definitely turned into a great year for premium Irish whiskey in the UK with this yet another quality Irish whiskey being launched.

It takes a few mouthfuls to fully appreciate but once you get into this with its big pot still influence and wonderful delicate sherry and spices, you will just want to pour yourself another. The balance of fruit, spice and oak is perfect. Definitely a premium blend and a big step up from the standard Tullamore. If you enjoy premium Jameson whiskey or Redbreast whiskey then you will definitely enjoy this one and if you haven't tried Irish whiskey yet for the price this would be a great place to start.

More about it here and a tasting note:

It is an odd set up in Ireland were most of the Irish whiskey brands are produced in just a few distilleries. I would be very surprised if William Grant doesnt build a new Tullamore Dew distillery, i always asumed it would be there intention.

I have had a bottle of this from duty free, not bad stuff and as you say William not far away from Jameson or Redbreast style which is not surprising as they all originate from Midleton.

I thought Grants would have been eager to build a new Tullamore distillery, i am sure we will see one day.

Yea i thought Grants would be in a hurry to build a distillery as they currently have to pay Irish Distillers to produce Tullamore whiskey which has got to limit the profit they make.
