| TheMaster.. Should I assume you are not a fan ? Free samples 😂 Nothing in life is ever free.. But yes you are right I do receive some samples but far less than you portray, and far less than the other blogs and reviewers already mentioned.. I also don’t think I have mentioned my blog on here more than 3-5 times in the many years I have been a member on here.. Just saying 🤷â€â™‚ï¸ðŸ‘ |

Like TheWM I tend to find myself making notes and reading Serge's reviews after with similar things in them, so I take his scores seriously.o ky a few times have I bought stuff after a review of his and found it not to my liking, but that's rare.
Some reviewers I just don't find match my palate and are way off from what I find in a spirit, although they may be well regarded reviewers. This is where personal preference comes in.
Sorren will be along soon both doubt plugging his blog |
I have to say that I need to trust the palate of the author before I tend to have faith / trust in what I am reading. I am not a fan of sites that score whiskies...just puts me off. I would rather know how they make you feel, good or bad!! I do tend to read Sorren's blog on occasion, and he can't be that bad, he was shortlisted for communicator of the year 2020 (as was I too, for Scotland.)
I also blog but mix whisky with real life events and thoughts / feelings... |

I don’t believe whisky in general is bad, rather it just does not suit our palate which does not make it bad.. There are those out there who give low scores and persistently give low scores, this does not make it an honest review !! Serge is fantastic but my advice is to always read a cross section of reviews, blogs and so on.. We all only give an opinion.. In the end it’s up to the reader to make their own mind up.. |
You have a blog??!! |

| A whisky review is useless without rating the whisky and i find most whisky bloggers offer nothing more than a rehash of the official tasting notes and most of these bloggers you find on Twitter doing tweet tastings which I find useless as a guide to what is good to buy and what isnt. Bloggers probably don't have the influence on sales that some may think as most probably have no more than a handful of visitors to their sites. |

| Interesting thoughts Bookie.. Don’t agree with you though. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I’d personally say most of those who score whiskies are well of the Mark when it comes to consistencies.. The tweet tastings are a good way of trying new things and once again it’s all about opinions. I find most of the people who slate them are those who can’t get onto them and decide its easier to attack them rather than understand the merits.. Just my opinion 🤷â€â™‚ï¸ |

I enjoy reading/listening to reviews but rarely use any of them to buy anything. There's been many a bottle I've enjoyed that's had poor reviews and poor bottles I've had that have great reviews.
I appreciate it's probably useful for those on a budget to make the wisest purchase based on the info at hand but once you get to know your own tastes it's pretty easy to judge whether a bottle will be worth your while or not, after which reviews become pure entertainment! |

| Davidbe.. Well put.. Bloggers are there to give you an opinion only, it’s not gospel what we write and nor should it be taken that way.. |

Just my opinion 🤷â€â™‚ï¸ | I certainly have no interest in taking part in any tweet tasting, I buy the whiskies that I want to taste and to say that people who slate them are those who can’t get onto them is complete and utter nonsense |

II would agree with you Bookie.
The long time established sites including this one is where I look for whisky reviews and news, I don't pay any attention to the clique of whisky blogs that have sprung up in recent years which are usually the same bloggers which you find performing on tweet tastings, I consider the tweet tastings as a marketing tool aimed at unknowledgeable whisky drinkers. I have only followed a couple of tastings and wouldn't waste my time again. |
