Fettercairn
unveil the 3rd
instalment of their Warehouse
Collection, Fettercairn Warehouse 2
Batch No.003, a young whisky this time, a combination of 57% ex-American
Bourbon barrels, 16%
Rum Casks and 27% French red wine barriques.
 Following
the first two releases which proved to
be very popular due to the quality of
them Fettercairn distillery today
unveiled the third instalment of their
small batch Warehouse Collection, a
series which has been created to
celebrate the hidden gems from
Fettercairn distillery's 14 dunnage
warehouses and to showcase its
commitment to enlightened whisky making.
This third instalment of their small
batch Warehouse Collection, Fettercairn
Warehouse 2 Batch No.003, is quite a
youngish whisky in comparison to the
first two releases, Batch 3 was
was distilled in 2015 and bottled in
2022, it has been created from a
combination of three types of casks
handpicked by the Fettercairn whisky
maker Gregg Glass.
For the main contributing whisky for
Batch 3 Gregg chose ex-Bourbon barrel
whisky which makes up 57% of the whisky,
16% was matured in rum barrels, these
were no ordinary rum casks they where
ex-Fettercairn casks which had been
seasoned with a blend of Caribbean rums,
a mix or pot still and column distilled
rums, aged and unaged, and the third
contributing cask type, contributing 27%
of the Batch 3 mix, was matured in
French red wine barriques.
This unique combination of casks was
carefully chosen from the treasure trove
of aging stock in Warehouse 2, where
high humidity combines with the
relatively cool and temperate
environment to make their mark on the
maturing spirit.
The combination of the three types of
casks has produced 9000 bottles that
have been bottled at 50.6% ABV, non
chill-filtered and naturally coloured.
The Warehouse Collection celebrates the
talent, passion and commitment of the
distillery team, coupled with the vision
of Gregg Glass, Master Whisky Maker, in
seeking unusual and interesting casks to
craft these unconventional small batch
releases. Limited in number and
availability, the Collection has already
captured the imagination of both
collectors and whisky drinkers with its
striking look and clear purpose.
Gregg Glass, Master Whisky Maker, said:
"With expectation high following the
popularity of the first two releases in
the Collection, we knew we needed to
deliver something special with this
third release, without compromising the
approach we’ve been striving to adopt.
As such, when personally hand selecting
casks for this edition, I wanted to push
the boundaries further to create a
beautifully balanced single malt which
delivered both freshness and complexity
in character. I believe Batch No. 003 is
another true one off for Fettercairn.
"Warehouse 2 has so much to offer in
terms of diversity and quality of the
casks and it is always a challenging,
yet enthralling task to select the ones
to create each batch. The choice of
French barriques combined with rum
barrels for this release has brought a
truly different dimension to this spirit
and enabled us to keep showcasing our
innovative and experimental approach."
Fettercairn Warehouse 2, Batch No.003
will be available in key global markets
including the UK, the Netherlands,
Germany, Belgium and France from this
month, extending to key Asia markets
from May onwards.

Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Honey, vanilla, a little spiced pear and
sugared almond, some pineapple and red
grape lurks in the background.
Taste:
The fruity mix from the nose with a
honeyed and sugared almond edge leads,
the pineapple and red grape from the
nose is more apparent, a wee touch of
orange citrus joins the fruit mix, some
late gentle, sweet, peppery, oak spice
add to the pleasure.
Finish:
The
sugared almond departs first, the honey
and fruit hangs in there for a while
before bowing out to leave some lovely
lingering and slightly drying pepper and
oak spice.
Comment:
Yes it is young, but most importantly, an enjoyable young
Fettercairn. I actually received samples
of the three contributing casks as well
as a sample of the Batch 3 and
separately none of them were ready to be
released as a single malt but together
in the proportions Gregg Glass has put
together it is a enjoyable young
Fettercairn. I actually messed around
with blending my samples and a Rum cask
rich vatting, with the Rum taking the
Bourbon casks contributing percentage
was also a very good mix. A young dram
the for third release in the series but
still an enjoyable one.
