Douglas Laing
present cheque for £10,000 to the RAF
Benevolent Fund, the generous donation
came from sales of a special Big Peat
‘The RAF Edition’.

Glasgow based independent whisky bottling and soon to be producer Douglas
Laing continued
its generous support of the RAF Benevolent Fund by handing over a cheque for
£10,000 at the Universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde Air Squadron last week.
You may recall that earlier this year, Douglas Laing launched a limited bottling
in aid of the Fund, which marks its centenary in 2019.
Big
Peat ‘The RAF Edition’ shows Big Peat in the original RAF attire,
wearing his leather flying helmet, shearling jacket with commemorative pin
badge, and a flowing white silk scarf. A Sopwith Camel carries a banner denoting
1919-2019, the commemorative years of the charity. With an apt 1919 bottles
produced, Douglas Laing has donated £5 for every bottle sold to the RAF
Benevolent Fund.
On receiving the cheque Air Vice-Marshal David Murray, Chief Executive of the
Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, said: "I would like to thank the team at
Douglas Laing & Co for supporting the RAF Benevolent Fund in what is a very
important year for the charity. As we mark our centenary, we were delighted to
join the Big Peat family in what is their tenth year.
"It is through the generous support of individuals and companies like this which
means the Fund has been able to stand side by side with the Royal Air Force and
its people for 100 years, offering support when they need it most."
Big Peat, also celebrating an anniversary this year (‘his’ 10th) which Douglas
Laing marked with the release of
Big Peat
10 Year Old commemorative bottling. Big Peat is a marriage of single
malts only from Islay, Scotland. Since its launch in 2009, the whisky has
collected several industry awards, including the ‘Master’ ultimate accolade from
the Asian Spirits Masters in 2018.
Chris Leggat, CEO at Douglas Laing & Co, added: "In the year that our friends at
the RAF Benevolent Fund celebrate a landmark 100 years, our much-loved Big Peat
Islay Malt Scotch Whisky also celebrates a milestone, “his” first decade of
Whisky adventures!
"The RAF Benevolent Fund has long been a cause close to the hearts of the
Douglas Laing family, as our founder, Fred Douglas Laing, flew with the RAF
throughout World War Two. To mark 100 years of the RAF Benevolent Fund, and Big
Peat’s 10th Birthday, we were delighted to collaborate on this unique,
charitable release."
I believe that the
Big Peat RAF Benevolent bottling is long
sold out but you can still find some of the Big Peat 10 Year Old
commemorative bottling
available from specialist online whisky retailers such as The Whisky Exchange
and
Master of Malt
