The Denver & Liely Whisky Glass Review

5th February 2016

The Denver & Liely whisky tasting glass for those who like the traditional tumbler style of whisky glass.

The Denver & Liely Whisky Glass

The Denver & Liely Whisky Glass is the creation of Australian based designers Denver Cramer & Liely Faulkner, a hand-blown glass designed to bridge the gap between the traditional whisky tumbler and the traditional whisky tasting glass such as the Glencairn or Copita style tasting glass.

The hand-blown shape of the D&L Whisky Glass is designed to capture the sensory pleasure of taste and smell associated with a traditional whisky snifter and combines this with the versatile form and style of a classic tumbler.

The glass’s wide base is designed to maximise the surface area of a standard measure, funnelling the aromas through the tapered body to the optimally sized opening. This reveals the whisky’s full character.

I decided to put Denver & Liely Whisky Glass through its paces next to the popular Glencairn whisky tasting glass and a copita style tasting glass which is my personal personal choice of glass when tasting a whisky. To test the new glass I choose a whisky which I am very familiar with, the outstanding Glenlivet Nadurra First Fill Selection which has a alcohol strength of 63.1% ABV.

My conclusion is that the D & L glass does work and rather well, the narrowed rim really does concentrate the aromas from the wide surface area of whisky in the base of the glass and I found that when tipping the glass up to taste your nose is submerged into the narrowed rim top of glass which means you can continue to inhale the concentrated aromas through your nose while taking the whisky into your mouth which very much enhances the whole tasting experience. It took me a little time to figure out a comfortable way to hold it but I am just being picky now. I have to say I was quite impressed with this, it does what it was designed to do, a whisky tasting glass for those who like the traditional tumbler style of whisky glass.

It is also a very versatile glass, I would imagine it would still enhance your experience if you had to add ice to your whisky which I know many whisky drinkers do and it is big enough for those of you who enjoy a whisky cocktail.

Since its launch the D&L Whisky Glass has tantalised the taste buds of international markets and whisky-lovers the world over, with a number of new global distribution deals, you will now find it available in Germany, the United Kingdom, Andorra and the United States, it is now available from a total of 23 dealers worldwide with the latest being Harrods here in the UK priced £35.
