Douglas Laing Whisky Chinese Year Of The Dragon 2024 - Rock Island Cask Strength, XOP Bunnahabhain 35 Years Old and an XOP Carsebridge 46 Years Old and Old Particular Craigellachie 10 Years Old.

Glasgow based independent Scotch whisky distillers, blenders, and bottlers, Douglas Laing & Co has revealed not one but four limited edition whiskies to mark the Chinese Year of the Dragon 2024.

With a RRP of £55 from their popular Rock Island Scotch blended malt whisky brand they have released a Cask Strength bottling to mark the Year of the Dragon, this expression has been uniquely finished in fiercely charred 'crocodile casks.' Embracing the pure essence of whisky, free from colorants or chill-filtration, aligning seamlessly with Douglas Laing's commitment to bottling whisky in its most natural form.

This new release pays tribute to the pivotal role of wood in crafting Scotch Whisky, highlighting the significance of charring and its profound influence on the resulting spirit.

Emma Reid, Rock Island’s Brand Manager commented: "The Rock Island brand showcases the finest qualities of our most celebrated whisky-producing islands. The intricate flavours found across Scotland's islands are unparalleled, marrying seamlessly to craft a subtly peated style that is accessible and enjoyable for both novices and connoisseurs alike. This edition celebrates charring – the process when casks are met with a flame to open the grain of the wood, therefore enabling the spirit to extract a greater depth of flavour."

Those of you familiar with the original Rock Island Scotch blended malt whisky will know that it is a marriage of Single Cask Single Malts distilled only on Scotland’s Whisky islands. The resulting spirit boasts a complex balance of maritime flavours, with waves of sweet, salty, smoky, and earthy notes.

From their esteemed Exceptional Single Cask selection, three Limited-Edition bottling's emerge to mark the Year of the Dragon 2024 – and each of these remarkable spirits was distilled during a past 'Year of the Dragon' – 2012, 1988 & 1976. The three whiskies are:

  • Old Particular Craigellachie 10 Year Old Single Cask Single Malt - Vintage 2012: Year of the Water Dragon

  • XOP Bunnahabhain 35 Year Old Single Cask Single Malt - Vintage 1988: Year of the Earth Dragon

  • XOP Carsebridge 46 Year Old Single Cask Single Grain - Vintage 1976: Year of the Fire Dragon

For the presentation of the 4 Year of the Dragon whiskies Douglas Ling has collaborated with the esteemed Asian designer and tattoo artist, Milkabean, they've adorned the labels of these bottles with intricate and stunning Chinese Dragon illustrations, paying homage to the forthcoming 2024's Wood Dragon.
