Review of the
new no age statement Caisteal Chamuis
heavily peated Island blended malt
Scotch whisky.
 Caisteal
Chamuis is a new heavily peated Island
region blended
malt Scotch whisky range from Mossburn
Distillers, owners
of the new Torabhaig distillery on the
Isle of Skye.
The new whisky range takes its name from
the mysterious medieval ruin, Caisteal
Chamuis (Gaelic pronunciation
phonetically resembles Kash-teel
Haam-oosh or for non-Gaelic speakers -
Castle Camus), which lies on the
headland of the eastern flank of Knock
Bay, on the Isle of Skye.
The once strategic stronghold helped
Clan Macleod secure their hold over part
of the Sleat peninsula on Skye, and is
clearly visible from Mossburn
Distiller’s new distillery, Torabhaig.
The range has launched with two
expressions, the first of those is the
no age statement Caisteal Chamuis
Bourbon Barrelled blended malt Scotch
whisky, a blend of single malt whiskies
distilled on the islands of Skye, Orkney
& Islay which has been finished in
First-Fill American Bourbon casks.
The second whisky in the release is the
Caisteal Chamuis 12 Year Old Sherry
Barrelled blended malt, a blend of
single malts which have been distilled
on Islay and Orkney. Initially aged for
a minimum of 12 years and then double
barrelled in custom made Fresh Oloroso
Sherry Butts, the result they tell me is
a rich and smooth dram, with a complex
fragrant, heathery, lavender-like peat.
Both whiskies are presented non
chill-filtered, naturally coloured and
bottled at 46% ABV, you can read my

Hebrides."
Caisteal Chamuis 12 Year Old has a RRP
of £49 and the NAS Caisteal Chamuis
Blended has a RRP of £39, they are
available to buy in over 15 markets
including the UK, France, Germany in
2021 and in the USA in 2022. You will
now find both expressions available from specialist
online whisky retailers such as

Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
A delicate touch of
lemon mingles with lovely refined peat
and some vanilla and a touch of
butterscotch.
Taste:
Delicious sugar enhanced peat infused
butterscotch with a side of creamy
vanilla fills every corner of the mouth,
it is quickly joined by some lovely
peppery sweet oak spices, the touch
lemon citrus from the nose is also there
throughout..
Finish:
A deliciously long sweet, peaty oaky
finish, the vanilla, sweet peat
and lemon citrus bow out slowly to leave
a touch of mildly drying oak.
Comment: Definitely one for the peatheads, a delicious new
sweet peaty blended malt that could
rival some of the best quality big Islay
peaty single malt drams out there such
as Ardbeg or Kilchoman. If you enjoy big peaty bourbon cask matured
drams then this will not disappoint.
Hopefully this is an indication of the
quality that is to come from Torabhaig.
I need to get hold of a bottle of the 12
year old now to see how good Caisteal
Chamuis is with
a sherry influence, meanwhile it is a
big thumbs up from me for the no age
statement Caisteal Chamuis Bourbon
Barrelled blended malt Scotch whisky.
