Benromach
release a very rare 1973 vintage single
cask whisky.
 Benromach
have launched a very limited UK
exclusive single cask whisky, the
extremely rare Benromach Heritage 1973.
This really is a rare whisky release
with only 53 bottles available. It was
distilled in 1973 and matured in a
Refill American Hogshead Cask No. 4606.
It was left to quietly mature for over
42 years before being bottled at a very
respectable 48.1% ABV considering its
age.
It is the oldest release from the
distillery which I can recall and given
the good reputation Benromach has
acquired itself amongst whisky
connoisseurs since being brought back to
life by the folks at Gordon & MacPhail I
have no doubt that the Benromach 1973
will catch whisky drinkers attention.
Of course it was distilled long before
the Urquhart family (G & M) took the
reins and brought Benromach Distillery
back to life in 1998, but since taking
over the distillery has had a very good
reputation for releasing some fantastic
older whisky such as the highly rated
Benromach 1974 single sherry butt
matured whisky which they released last
year.
Distillery Manager Keith Cruickshank
commented: "Benromach 1973 is very much
a dram to be treasured. It was crafted
with great care using many of the same
skills and practises adopted at
Benromach today.
"It’s been maturing for 42 years, but
now is the time for whisky lovers to
savour this precious single malt. I’m
sure those who really take their whisky
seriously will enjoy the chance to
experience a little bit of Benromach
history."
The distillery described this rare
single malt as a dark golden malt, with
hints of dark chocolate and a peppery
smooth finish.
As you would expect for such a rare
whisky, the Benromach 1973 is presented in a premium wooden box which has
been inspired by the copper of
Benromach's stills, as well
as the dark, grained wood of the
original washbacks and the white of the
lime washed distillery walls. If you are
