Berry Bros. &
Rudd revives a classic with the release
of Blue Hanger 14th Edition

Britain's oldest wine and spirits
merchant has unveiled the
long-anticipated 14th edition of Blue
Hanger, one of its most renowned blended
malt whiskies, marking the return of the
series after a pause of more than a
decade.
Across thirteen earlier editions, Blue
Hanger has cultivated a loyal following
among whisky enthusiasts and collectors,
with previous releases now commanding
significant interest on the secondary
market.
Named for William "Blue" Hanger, 3rd
Lord Coleraine—an 18th-century patron
celebrated for his refined style and
distinctive blue clothing—the series
showcases limited-edition blended malts
drawn from carefully chosen casks. Each
batch is produced in small quantities,
contributing to the individuality and
collectability of every release.
Originally created in 1934 for the
diplomatic export trade, Blue Hanger
vanished for many years before being
revived in 2003 by Doug McIvor, then the
company’s Spirits Manager. Now, more
than ten years since the last edition,
the series has been brought back once
again under the guidance of Spirits
Curator Felix Dear.
Throughout its history, Blue Hanger has
never adhered to a single flavour
blueprint; instead, it has pursued a
constant theme of depth, complexity, and
balance. While some editions emphasized
rich sherried character and others
highlighted coastal smokiness, each has
been defined by harmony and finesse.
The 14th Edition is composed of mature
malt whiskies, the youngest being 26
years old. The blend is drawn from seven
casks in total—six ex-bourbon hogsheads
and one ex-sherry butt.
Felix Dear, Spirits Curator at Berry
Bros. & Rudd, said: "Blue Hanger has
been part of Berry Bros. & Rudd since
1934, and every edition since its
revival in 2003 has been eagerly
anticipated and quickly snapped up.
After more than a decade away, the calls
to bring it back never stopped. The 14th
Edition is our answer, a blend of
exceptional aged malts that we’re proud
to put the Blue Hanger name on once
again."
Blue Hanger 4th Edition has been bottled
at 45.6% ABV in a limited run of 2,500
bottles and priced at £120.00, Blue
Hanger 14th Edition will be available
from 3 March 2026 exclusively through
bbr.com.
Blue Hanger 4th Edition will also be
available from April 2026, it will also
be released via selected specialist online whisky
shops such as
