The Artisanal
Spirits Company, the owner of The Scotch
Malt Whisky Society, acquires US based
independent bottling brand Single Cask
Nation.
A bit of whisky business news to
kick-off the new year, the Artisanal
Spirits Company (ASC) plc, known for its
exceptional whisky and global
experiences, and the owner of The Scotch
Malt Whisky Society (SMWS), has acquired
Single Cask Nation, an independent
bottling brand based in the US.
Founded in 2011 by Jason
Johnstone-Yellin and Joshua Hatton,
Single Cask Nation now joins ASC’s
esteemed family of brands, standing
alongside SMWS and J.G. Thomson & Co.
ASC’s vision to broaden its collection
of high-quality brands catering to a
discerning global community of whisky
and craft spirits enthusiasts is the
driving force behind this acquisition.
 Similar to The SMWS, Single Cask Nation
specialises in sourcing, curating, and
bottling rare single-cask and
limited-edition whiskies and spirits.
Their products are available online and
through specialised outlets in eight
markets, including the United States,
United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, Japan,
Israel, and Canada. With an audience
exceeding 10,000 whisky aficionados
worldwide, the US market stands as their
largest base.
This acquisition won’t affect operations
at The Scotch Malt Whisky Society,
ensuring its continued delivery of
Scotch whisky experiences for its
members.
Johnstone-Yellin and Hatton will retain
leadership of Single Cask Nation as a
separate entity within the ASC group.
Steve Hawley, a respected figure in the
whisky industry, known for his role as
president of the American Single Malt
Whisky Commission and former VP Global
Marketing for Westland Distillery in
Seattle, has also joined ASC’s team. He
will collaborate closely with Single
Cask Nation, offering strategic and
tactical support.

Single Cask Nation’s co-founder
Johnstone-Yellin said: "In a way, by
