Ardbeg blends
Sicilian sweetness with Islay peat smoke
in the new limited Ardbeg Day 2026
release. The whisky which was matured in
Marsala dolce casks invites fans to
experience the taste of la dolce vita…
Islay-style.

Ardbeg Day, celebrated each year on the
final Saturday of Islay's Festival of
Music and Malt (Fèis Ìle), brings
together fans worldwide to honour the
distillery’s iconic smoky spirit. This
year, on Saturday 30th May, peat lovers
are invited to indulge in la dolce
vita—with a distinctly Islay twist. At
the distillery and at events across the
globe, Ardbeg will pay tribute to its
Dolce release by channelling the
elegance of 1960s Italian cinema,
reimagined in signature Ardbeg style.
This limited edition features a core
matured in Marsala dolce casks, creating
a bold marriage of Sicilian sweetness
and Islay peat.
Ardbeg Dolce is crafted by combining
rare whisky aged in Marsala dolce
casks—the sweetest expression of
Sicily’s fortified wine—with classic
bourbon cask-matured Ardbeg. The result
intensifies the distillery's famed
"peaty paradox," balancing rich
sweetness with smoky depth. The whisky
opens with aromas of ripe oranges and
apricots, followed by layers of dark
chocolate, hints of olive groves, gentle
smoke, and salted nuts.
To mark Ardbeg Day, celebrations at the
distillery and Committee gatherings
worldwide will spotlight this fusion of
flavours by reinterpreting la dolce vita
through an Ardbeg lens. Inspired by the
iconic flair of 1960s Italian cinema,
events will combine Mediterranean
sophistication with Islay’s rugged
charm. Guests can expect
Italian-inspired delicacies with a smoky
twist, tastings of the limited release,
retro-style games, and lively music
blending Mediterranean street sounds
with Scottish folk traditions.
Gillian Macdonald, Master Blender and
Co-Chair of the Ardbeg Committee, said:
"Uniting whisky matured in Marsala dolce
casks and classic Ardbeg, Ardbeg Dolce
is a dramatic blend of Mediterranean
sweetness and Islay peat. Sweet notes of
apricot, marmalade and dark chocolate
rub shoulders with salty, smoky flavours
and roasted nutty tones. Enjoy this
limited edition in a Sicilian courtyard,
on rain-drenched Scottish island or
wherever you are. We think it’ll be an
instant classic."
Bryony McNiven, Distillery Manager and
Committee Co-Chair, said: "For smoky
malt lovers, life doesn't get much
sweeter than on Ardbeg Day. And this
year, we're celebrating the sweet life
Islay-style. It’s time to dial up the
1960s spirit and enjoy 'la dolce
Islay'!"
