Review of Ardbeg Dark Cove 46.5% ABV release which will launch on May 28th.
 Ardbeg Dark Cove will launch on Ardbeg Day which falls on 28th May this year, the Ardbeg Day bottling is always a popular release amongst the many fans of the iconic peaty whisky producing Islay distillery and I am sure this year will be no exception.
Dark Cove is a marriage of sherry cask and hallmark ex-bourbon cask matured Ardbeg and as usual the Ardbeg Day bottling follows the higher strength Ardbeg Committee release earlier this year.
As always there is a creative Islay inspired story behind the name of the new Ardbeg bottling, on this occasion it relates to Islay's dark past. Centuries ago, at the dead of night, the early distillers would smuggle their whisky from the rocky shores of Ardbeg cove, to black-painted ships moored off the coast, where it would be spirited away to the Scottish mainland. This year, the shadowy history of Ardbeg’s homeland will be recalled as part of the annual festivities of the Islay single malt, when Ardbeg Day becomes Ardbeg Night.
The yearly celebration takes place on 28th May 2016 as part of the Islay Festival of Malt and Music (Feis Ile), when Ardbeg’s loyal following – the Ardbeg Committee – and their friends will be invited to attend a series of special tasting events being held at night across the world. As they recall Islay’s past, Committee members can smuggle in a guest to the venue. Events in the UK will be held at Whistling Shop in London and Bramble in Edinburgh, further details are to follow.
Ardbeg Dark Cove was bottled at 46.5% ABV and will be available from Ardbeg Embassies, also know as specialist whisky shops such as
The Whisky Exchange with an RRP of £95.99 per 70cl bottle.
Ardbeg Night will be celebrated at the distillery on Saturday 28th May 2016 and at participating Ardbeg Embassies around the world so if you are not lucky enough to be on Islay on 28th May then check with your local specialist whisky shop. |
