Ardbeg
announces their latest Committee
exclusive offering, Ardbeg Anamorphic.
From 10 am on November 2, 2023, Ardbeg
Committee members based in the UK will
have the exclusive opportunity to
acquire the latest Ardbeg
Committee-exclusive whisky, Ardbeg
Anamorphic.
Ardbeg Anamorphic has been meticulously
crafted through a pioneering and rather
unconventional cask treatment process, a
creation originating from the
imaginative mind of Dr. Bill Lumsden,
Ardbeg's Director of Distilling and
Whisky Innovation.
For this exclusive limited release, the
distillery embarked on a daring
experiment aimed at stretching the
boundaries of flavour extraction from
charred casks. Following the removal of
the heads from traditional Ardbeg
bourbon casks, deep scoring was applied
to reveal more wood surface during the
toasting stage. Subsequently, the
barrels underwent an intense charring
process, referred to as 'high mocha,'
before being filled with Ardbeg spirit.
The outcome Ardbeg tells me is a
multi-dimensional whisky that
transitions and evolves among four
distinctive flavour profiles: sweetness,
smokiness, herbal notes, and spiciness.
Dr Bill Lumsden said "Our high mocha
toasting is what’s responsible for
unlocking Ardbeg’s hidden 4D flavour.
Aromas of earthy peatiness lead into an
Ardbeg from an alternate universe.
Bittersweet mocha slowly emerges, while
fiery chilli chocolate interlocks with
floral chrysanthemum and jasmine. As
soon as I tasted Anamorphic, I knew the
Ardbeg Committee would find it as
intriguing as I did. As enigmas wrapped
up in conundrums go, this whisky takes
Ardbeg to a whole new level!"
The captivating packaging of Anamorphic
presents impossible illustrations that
cleverly reflect the whisky's flavour
characteristics. Additionally, it
incorporates various figures from the
Distillery community seamlessly woven
into the design.
Ardbeg Anamorphic is bottled at 48.2%
ABV and will be priced at £165, it is only available online
exclusively to Ardbeg Committee Members
from the Ardbeg website from 10am on
November 2, Ardbeg will send members the

Ardbeg Anamorphic Committee Release Review
|
Bottled at 48.2% ABV.
Producer's
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Earthy,
dusty and slightly biscuity on the nose,
this is a most curious Ardbeg, almost
from an alternative universe. The
sooty/tarry notes are clear but
restrained, and are balanced out by some
silky vanilla. Water opens up a myriad
of herbal and floral notes – smoked
vetiver root, aniseed, fennel,
chrysanthemum and jasmine, to name but a
few.
Taste: The
mouthfeel is peppery and warming and
precedes an explosion of fiery, spicy
flavours – chilli-flavoured chocolate,
bittersweet mocha, briar wood, birch
tar, ground black pepper and smoked
artichokes.
Finish: The
sooty/tarry notes build up to a
crescendo of rich, smoky flavours with
an incredible lingering aftertaste of
charcoal bitter almonds and molasses.
