Ardbeg are
set to launch an Ardbeg Ten Year Old
Cask Strength expression exclusively for
Ardbeg Committee members, bottled at
61.7% ABV – the highest strength ever
seen in a Committee Release. My review
will be coming soon, so watch this
space!

For more than two decades, Ardbeg’s
devoted following – the Ardbeg Committee
– has been calling for a cask-strength
incarnation of the legendary Ardbeg Ten.
Now, the Islay distillery is finally
answering that call with a landmark
release: a powerful, cask-strength
edition of its iconic 10 Year Old single
malt. Drawn from hand-selected casks,
some filled at an unusually high entry
strength, they tell me that
the new whisky elevates the classic
smoky profile of Ardbeg Ten with a
naturally intensified ABV and deeper,
bolder character.
The story of Ardbeg Ten has long been
intertwined with the passion of its
Committee. In 2000, history was made
when Ardbeg Ten Year Old was introduced,
marking the revival of the distillery
and uniting the newly formed Committee
behind a malt that would soon earn
global acclaim. Ever since then, fans
have held the classic Ten as the
ultimate expression of Ardbeg’s famously
smoky style and a base from which to
compare any Ardbeg release which
followed it. However a cask-strength version has
remained at the top of their wish list,
especially after a small, highly coveted
edition appeared in Japan in 2003.
In tribute to the Committee's unwavering
enthusiasm, Ardbeg's whisky team, led by
Dr Bill Lumsden, set out to craft a
historic release in their honour.
Selecting a small number of American oak
bourbon casks – including experimental
barrels filled with undiluted spirit –
they created a whisky of remarkable
power and depth. The result they tell me
is bursting with aromas of tar, sea
spray and sweet, smoky richness, bottled
at 61.7% ABV – the highest strength ever
seen in a Committee Release.

This milestone bottling also marks the
first Committee edition to debut under
the leadership of the distillery's new
Co-Chairs, Master Blender Gillian
MacDonald and Distillery Manager Bryony McNiven. Gillian said:
"This
cask-strength Ardbeg Ten is a momentous
celebration of our Distillery's classic
style. Created by Dr Bill and myself
from casks filled with new-make spirit
at a higher-than-usual strength, it has
all the flavours Committee members know
and love, infused with a new intensity.
Those who are lucky enough to lay their
hands on a bottle will find aromas of
toffee, tar, with classic notes of
fennel and sea spray, and sweet sooty
tastes of peat moss, malt and smoked
cinnamon – amplified in an unforgettable
dram. Slàinte to our Committee!”
Bryony added: "Ardbeg Ten Cask Strength
is arguably one of the most wanted Ardbegs ever. It's
fantastic to finally be sharing it with
the Committee. What a dram – a perfect
balance of wood smoke, citrus sweetness
and salt."
Beyond its historic significance, this
release also heralds a new voyage for
fans. As Ardbeg notes, the calls for a
cask-strength Ten have grown louder
every year: you asked, you pleaded, and
now the distillery is proud to confirm
that Ardbeg Ten Year Old Cask Strength
is coming soon. They say to expect waves of sweet
smoke, earthy peat and aromas of toffee,
tar and sea spray, brightened by hints
of vanilla and lime. Water reveals
fennel and ember-like notes, while the
palate offers spicy sweetness
reminiscent of smoked cinnamon. A surge
of smoky flavours – soot, creosote and
peat moss – carries into a gentle biscuity character, finishing with
cooling touches of eucalyptus and
old-fashioned lozenges.
Released exclusively for members of the
Ardbeg Committee, this long-awaited
cask-strength edition of Ardbeg Ten will
be available online at Ardbeg.com from
24 February 2026, with a RRP of £75, and in
limited quantities at the distillery for
those adventurous enough to visit in
person. Smoky-malt fans can who haven't
already joined the free-to-enter Ardbeg
Committee and want to get hold of a
bottle of the Ardbeg Ten Year Old Cask
Strength can join the Committee – at www.ardbeg.com/committee
Will an Ardbeg Ten Year Old Cask
Strength expression be joining the
Ardbeg core range? No sign of that at
the moment and I would doubt it, so if
you want a bottle sign up for the Ardbeg
Committee.
I haven't had the chance to taste the
new Ardbeg Ten Year Old Cask Strength
yet but watch this space as I will let
you know what I think of it when I do,
meanwhile the official tasting note is
below for your consideration and you will find the current
Ardbeg whisky range as well as some rare
bottling's from the past available from specialist online whisky
shops such as
