Review of the
latest anCnoc Peaty Collection single
malt, anCnoc Stack.
anCnoc
Stack is the latest limited edition
release in the anCnoc Peaty Collection,
it was launched last month at Whisky
Live Paris, a no age statement whisky
but I can tell you that it has been
matured for more than 10 years.
Like
all previous releases in the collection
anCnoc Stack takes its name from
traditional peat cutting tools and
processes associated with peat
gathering. Stack refers to the
last step in the process, where the peat
blocks are stacked together ahead
of being burnt to dry the barley.
The peatiness of
the whisky that is bottled is all down
to the phenol content of the distilled
spirit, measured in Parts Per Million
(PPM), the higher the PPM the peatier
the whisky. Often distilleries like to
try to attract the peat heads amongst
you by telling you how peaty the malted
barley was which was used to produce the
whisky but that doesn't tell you how
peaty the final whisky is but hats off
to anCnoc for in the case of anCnoc
Peaty Collection whiskies they have
stated on the bottle the PPM of each
whisky. The anCnoc Stack has a PPM of
20 making it on of the peatiest in the
Collection to date.
Bottled in
the now distinctive Peaty Collection green glass anCnoc
bottle reflecting the look and feel of
Peaty whiskies, stack was matured for
more than 10 years in American oak
ex-bourbon barrels, non chill-filtered, natural
colour and bottled at 46% ABV.
anCnoc Stack is limited to 6000 bottles
priced around £52, it will will be
released exclusively in Western and
Eastern Europe before becoming available
in Scandinavia from 21st October. It
will be available from specialist online
whisky retailers such as
Master of Malt
